Hello, I’m wondering if anyone has tried this course before and if they found it in the meats bit helpful??? I am petrified of flying, but after losing my mum very suddenly, I’ve realised that my family need a break away together and we’ve booked a holiday to Venice. I realise it’s a very short flight but the idea of turbulence makes me feel sick and panicky! I have only flown a handful of time in all my life due to the fear.
can anyone help?!

I tried it, but it didn't work for me. I have very complex anxiety though. When I did it the plane was full and 3 of us left - that's a pretty good conversion rate! Good luck x

Anyone else? I’m only doing the online version

I did the online version and it helped a bit but I do still get nervous when there’s turbulence, however the course taught me a really helpful technique involving tapping that I use when I start to feel panicky which does work, think it’s based on distraction.

My Dad did a fear of flying course from Manchester airport about 15 years ago. It was a morning talking about fear and a short fight in the afternoon. He is back to being fearful now, but he did a lot of flights over the 10 years or so after it, including visiting his relation in Australia more than once.

I haven’t done the course but I read Allen Carr’s fear of flying book. It’s only a short read. It really helped me. Before I read it I would have anxiety dreams about planes EVERY NIGHT without fail, without even having a holiday or anything booked. I went away last year to Spain and felt very calm.
just look at the cabin crew when there’s turbulence and you will see how they’ve been through it loads of times and just get on with their duties.
i found deep breathing helps and pilots will usually drop the plane down a bit to get out of the turbulence to make the ride smoother. Feel free to DM me x

I did the online version and yes I did find it helpful. However I should add to this that my reason for doing it was that my GP surgery stopped prescribing the diazepam I had previously used for flight anxiety, but after purchasing the online course, I discovered that I was still able to obtain my medication from a private GP. So, although I did find the course reassuring I haven’t actually flown using just that to calm me. Before paying for the course, I would recommend looking on YouTube to see what is out there for free, eg podcasts from pilots and/or techniques for anxiety. Learning that a plane can fly happily with one engine, or glide and land with no engines is quite amazing though, and explanations around turbulence very helpful.

What private GP company do you use?

I have lifetime access to the online course and I redo it before each flight. I also started having a travel sickness tablet (kids one). I have found this combination be try effective and am now a lot better at flying and on occasion have even enjoyed it. (Almost)!

What private GP company do you use?

It was an individual GP who did private consultations, north Worcestershire area. I don’t think any of the online pharmacies would prescribe for that, not the couple I looked at anyway, but I think some of the private hospitals have associated GP services, it’s worth contacting them to ask. I had to give permission for him to see my NHS records.
