I'm keen to do a minibreak (3 nights) in mid October with my family, 2 adults and 2 primary aged kids. I've found value flights to Olbia, Sardinia. I'm not quite sure where to start with the rest of the planning...
We have a small budget for accommodation, around £100pn, which seems just about doable. We like nature, outdoors, small gentle hikes to ruins/cafes, beach combing, swimming (if the weather is kind), history, boats, animals. We'd like to be near a restaurant or two, but don't need much. We'd likely hire a car.
I've been looking at Pittulongu, Palau or Cala Gonone as a base. Any idea what they will be like in October, in terms of crowds, number of restaurants still open? Which would be best?
- Cala Gonone looks good, cliffs and beach, kids playground, has caves nearby, plus an aquarium. But I'm worried there won't be much going on out of season and it'll be a reasonable transfer from Olbia.
- Pittulongu is close to Olbia, so seems to have both beach and town to hand. More likely to find restaurants open?
- Palau looks picturesque, is closer to some lovely beaches, but further from other sights and less secure in poor weather in terms of activities to entertain small children?
Other sights we should visit? I've seen Castelsardo recommended, or Porto Rotondo. Any other gems?
