husband wants a cruise... I think it sounds awful

My husband is convinced we should go on a cruise with our baby and 3year old. They look like my literal worst nightmare full of tacky entertainment and being stuck chasing a toddler round a ship with nothing to do for a baby and stuck together in the tiniest of rooms. Has anyone taken kids this age on one?

He had a great time on one to Alaska when he and his brother were in their 20s which is a very skewed view on what it will be like with kids I think!

Cruises are fabulous!

They are now virtually all I do. My young adult kids also think they are fantastic.

Entertainment isn't tacky - who told you that? Singers who have worked with Mowtown stars, BGT winners/second players, West end level shows, comedians who are on TV, some of the best singers/groups and musicians Ive come across. Yes, the enrichment programme can be a hit or miss, bbut you can choose not to attend them. Crafting is fun.

But the q is would I go with a baby and a toddler? No. Kids get sick and whilst there's a medic on board, I wouldnt rely on that to manage illnesses young children pick up (and spread).

Wait until your kids are older and can go to kids club. You will then get some you time.

I love a cruise. I wouldn't go with young kids though...I wouldn't be able to relax at all, i'd be constantly paranoid about them climbing on a chair next to the barrier etc 🤢

I wouldn’t go with kids that age. To me, a cruise doesn’t even seem that kid friendly anyway. Maybe suggest to him that family holidays should be on dry land and that you could have a couples only cruise when the kids are older.

We’ve had some fantastic family holidays on cruises. We’ve tried a few cruise lines now and have found one that suits us as a family (Celebrity, in case you want a recommendation).

Just an observation that people saying it's great actually have experience, and people saying don't do it are doing so based on netflix. It's like saying you should never go on any holidays, because didn't you read about this hotel in Egypt where everyone got a stomach bug, and omg the sunbed wars..
There are a million different cruise options, choose it carefully depending on your needs and you'll have a fabulous time.

I did go on a cruise. Never again.

I don't think that's fair.

I've never been to lots of places and some places I never will go to.

There used to be a TV show called, 'Holiday' that basically showed you different holiday places.

Have I been on a cruise? No. Because I don't like boats and I can't relax when I am on water whether it is a ferry or any other boat.

that's different though - of course it's fine not to like water and therefore not go on a cruise. Or not like heat and therefore never go on a beach holiday. But that different from saying all such holidays must be shit for everybody else as well.

@G5000 Fair enough.
