We’re having a couple of days there with older teens. What do you recommend activity and food wise?

thanks

Do the golden circle tour and the south shore tour / both amazing!

also a good tour but less popular is reyskaneas peninsula

Thingvellier and Vik are breathtaking. Thingvellier i kept expecting to see an elf. buy a jumper even tho they are £100z .

We didn’t do much in Reykjavik as i was in school trip.

go to the secret lagoon instead of the blue lagoon.

buy the chocolate covers liquorice!

Perlan museum is excellent.
some interesting architecture in the centre: church of course, concert hall, some deco buildings and easy to do your own walking tour
there is a hop on hop off bus which will take you to all the major sites.
golden circle trip from Reykjavik if you have time

Thanks everyone

we’ve got a golden circle tour booked, I should have said that, so it’s just things in central Reykjavik to do/see and places to eat

We had either breakfast, brunch, lunch or drinks at Sandholt every day because it was so lovely. It has something on the menu for everyone, including some Icelandic food, and it was reasonably priced. Try their Icelandic tea, hot chocolate with stroh and sourdough pasta!
Another place we liked was a little cafe called Icelandic Street Food. We got some reasonably priced seafood stew served in bread bowls. I’d go back just for that!

How many nights will you be in Reykjavik? It’s a nice city but not huge. We were in Iceland recently and found two nights in the city more than enough. We then rented a car and toured for an other week.

In Reykjavik, I’d recommend a whale-watching tour. We went with Elding but there are a few operators working out of the same area.

Also loved Hallgrímskirkja- get a ticket to take the lift up to the bell tower. Stunning views. There’s a little garden nearby that’s a free and open-air Einar Jónsson museum- well worth checking out.

In general, it’s a really easy city to get around, especially if you’re happy/able to walk and see where you end up. Some lovely architecture and murals. Found food was of a very high quality in all the cafes, bakeries, bars, and restaurants we visited. Sandholt for breakfast/brunch was really good, as are the bagels and doughnuts in Deig. Pósthús food hall and bar was lovely.

This was my first visit to Iceland and I loved it. Definitely want to go back but probably wouldn’t forfeit time elsewhere in favour of Reykjavik.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the recommendations.

we’re there for 2.5 days excluding travel so sounds perfect for unhurried exploring
