We're thinking of going there tomorrow. TIA.

there's a large car park, 3 pounds or so

delicious food in the estate deli shop on the other side of the road

lovely beach, we go there a lot in the summer. Is quite a walk from the car though, especially to the waters edge but we often stop by a channel depending on the tide and how much stuff we have.

Yes, very lovely. Pay for parking (not expensive) there is a little van in the car park selling posh sausages etc (very upmarket sort of catering van - something to do with Holkham Hall estate). Massive horseshoe shaped beach with fine sand, and little wood round the edge, like a Gruffalo wood. Then to the very posh pub over the road for a drink. The pub often has barbecues of the estate venison burger type. It is extremely Boden-On-Sea, but I rather like that.

Oh you lucky, lucky thing.

Parking easy, there is a huge car park that lines the drive up to the beach.

And I vote for the pub over the pub over the road too.

ohhhhhhh it's lovely there, I can't wait to go again.

my best family memory is of holkham beach - idyllic, but long walk to sea

Lilymaid · 27/05/2008 20:10

The tea shop/deli does very nice food. The pub (Victoria?) is rather expensive.

cosima · 27/05/2008 20:10

really nice, but you have to walk over some very shallow water to get to the best bits of the beach so you might need waterproof shoes or flip flops or something.

WideWebWitch · 27/05/2008 21:04

Oh thank you all of you, we're probably going on Thurs and will take wellies and coats. I'm so glad it's nice, really looking forward to it.

Is the pub ok with children anyone know? Do we need to book to eat lunch? Thanks

It's quite posh I think, most people I know don't eat there with the children but it might be okay for lunch, they do a barbeque some days.

MrsCarrot · 27/05/2008 21:12

I would book

MsDemeanor · 27/05/2008 21:41

Pub restaurant really very pricey for small portions in my experience. Best to eat a very good sausage sandwich in the cafe or from the van, then decamp for a drink and watch infants play in the wooden ship climbing frame thingy in the garden (deluges permitting)

MrsCarrot · 27/05/2008 22:00

the venison and chicken pies in the deli/cafe really are delicious too

cosima · 28/05/2008 09:05

you can take children in the pub, theres been loads of children when i've been there

WideWebWitch · 28/05/2008 10:31

Thank you everyone! This is really helpful.

Take wellies for sure, it's very squelcy sand!
And take a kite. Lots of dunes and people riding horse on beach.
It's fab, not like a typical beach at all.
