Help me plan my next summer holidays

I like to plan ahead and book early and looking for our next summer holiday. Ideally
-2 weeks AI, sandy beach
-not too hot, so probably not Europe as school
holidays are end of July/August
-2 kids, one big room is fine

Kids are active and like kids clubs, slides, pools, sea (not too wavy), entertainment. DH ideally wants good food, somewhere to snorkel.
I have been thinking Mexico (too hot?) or maybe Maldives. Not keen on Mauritius (too cold in August) or Us. Maybe Caribbean (also too hot). Other suggestions? I think Thailand is too far for us and Emirates also too hot.

You could try Portugal, it feels less hot due to the breeze. Canaries as well.

Otherwise you will have issues finding a sunny holiday without heat and long haul. Could you change it to May for one week (Cyprus) or Easter for 10 days and then to the Caribbean?

SchoolDilemma17 · 25/07/2025 16:11

Happy to go long haul if needed. We can’t do Easter for work reasons and are planning to see family in another part of Europe in May. August is also very hot there and too much. I don’t mind 28 and high humidity like in the Maldives, but can’t stand 35-40 and more like in Southern Europe.

Club med has resorts on the French Atlantic coast which will likely be cooler than Mediterranean Europe.

SchoolDilemma17 · 25/07/2025 18:36

I didn’t really want Europe. Club Med is €1400 per night for 4, it’s cheaper to fly AI to the Maldives.

Zanzibar is high 20s in August, rarely above 30.

So basically you can't go anywhere but the northpole or antarctica because all else is too hot ;)?

SallyDraperGetInHere · 31/08/2025 02:27

Budget?

More serious reaction: this is all about preferences.

I myself see holidays as a time of relaxation with sun (and the occasional day trip) and yes, that brings "hot". And if you have a beach to cool off on (like your Maldives option is prone to have) - then what is the problem? Additionally, if in a area that is used to be hot, like the Maldives, the Caribbean or the French south, you are prone to have airco everywhere you go inside. West coast France might not have that tradition and you end up hotter.

All will depend on your ideas of holiday and plan. Do you want an outdoorsy holiday? A beach one? With or without day-trips? Seeing sights or relaxation?

Do not know the Maldives and / or its resort life, but areas like the Caribbean, which I know well, have many all-inclusives. Resorts come with airco and airco'ed buses to take you places. All are on the beach. So great way to get some sun without losing your cool. But as you find Europe in summer already warm (no airco tradition!) I however definitely am not going to advise this if the airco + beach argument does not convince you - in the end, you need to have a great vacation.

Should you consider regardless - my last all-inclusive holidays were on Barbados list of all-inclusives if you think of (list of 15 all-inclusives by US news should you consider) and St. Maarten ( three all-inclusives on offer) . These holidays were in summer (!) and shoulder season respectively (also "hot") and had a perfect time. (Admittingly, I also visited & am not passionate about Jamaican all-inclusives but that has nothing to do with temperature, but the hustling and loitering as soon as you leave resort gates).

Again, it all depends on preferences, plans and wishes.

If Europe feels too hot for July/August and the Caribbean/Mexico too humid, I’d genuinely consider the Maldives. It’s warmer than Europe but not usually extreme, and many islands have calm lagoons, which is great for kids who like swimming and snorkelling.
Despite its reputation, it can work really well for families, especially if you choose a Maldives private island resort with proper kids’ clubs, space to explore and good all-inclusive food. One option worth looking at is RAAYA By Atmosphere — it’s on a larger island, has a good beach, kids’ activities and easy snorkelling for your DH, plus rooms big enough for a family of four.
The flight is long, but once you arrive it’s a very easy, switch-off kind of holiday with everything close by. Could be a nice balance if you want warm weather without the intensity of Mexico or the Caribbean.

That’s a good call but not sure AI is their thing
