Things to do Montreal and around

Hi
I’ve been surprised with a trip on Friday(!) to Montreal for 10 days.
has anyone got any suggestions for things to do - or to avoid!

Looking at some day trips out of the city. I did see a three day trip to Niagara falls but when I dug into the reviews lots of people seemed to be complaining about enforced eating at expensive restaurants which really bumped up the price
its for two not particularly fit 60 year olds.
thanks.

Go about an hour north to Mont Tremblant - lovely mountain resort situated on a lake.

We were only there for a long weekend and with children so didn’t do day trips but we walked up to Mount Royal and explored all around there. St Joseph’s Oratory is pretty spectacular and well worth a visit. We went to the Olympic park and really enjoyed a day there. It’s also next to the botanical gardens. We hadn’t realised that Cirque de Soleil are based there and so couldn’t get tickets but I would absolutely have gone if we could.

Get Cirque tickets if you can, they weren’t playing when we went.

The best cafe in the world ever is in Montreal- Olive and Gourmando. Make use of the post flight early wake up and head there to queue about 30 mins before it opens…. Make sure to order the apple and cinnamon pancakes, the ricotta french toast and one of the loaded sandwiches. It was so good I basically cried into my breakfast. We bought the cookbook and it’s the best one I have.

Mount Royal is worth the hike, make sure you take a good wander round the old town- there is a great little museum showing you the history on Montreal. The cathedral was also a real surprise.

If you have 10 days I’d be looking to head to Quebec for a few of them; gorgeous quant old town, beautiful riverfront, insane food, an interesting fort that’s the home of the Governor General and gives you a real taste of the french.

I’d also consider a day out to Lac Massawippi/North Hatley to enjoy the scenery/vineyards/the food scene.

Actually there are several beautiful places up and down that stretch of the St Lawrence river. It’s
not mountains like BC but it’s stunning in it’s own right- absolutely loved it!

The museum is the Montreal Museum of History and Archaeology

Consider taking the train to Ottawa. It’s a great place to visit. The parliament building, rideau canal & lots of museums to keep you busy for a few days.
