My DP and I have had a stressful few weeks and are in need of a 2 or 3 night break! We would have DSS (4.5) with us so things would mostly revolve around him, if he’s happy, we’re happy! Looking for destination recommendations in northern England, possibly north Wales or the midlands as don’t want to spend the limited time we have travelling too far, with attractions or things to do whether they cost or not. DSS lovely boy, very active, loves dinosaurs, trains, construction, boats, imaginative play, swimming and getting wet, being outside, exploring. We’re not on a tight budget though always appreciate good value things! Any suggestions appreciated as we really have struggled to think about much so far.

Somewhere near the Crocky Trail and Bewilderwood Cheshire. Tattershall Marina floating pods would tick off the boats and is something different but I loved a farm stay type b&b with kids that age.

Birmingham for Cadbury World, Legoland Discovery, aquarium, Drayton Manor, the ThinkTank and Warwick Castle.

Chester - boats on the river, day at Chester zoo, Delamere forest, aquarium at Cheshire oaks. There's a forest holidays site at Delamere but it'll be pricey.
Lake District - maybe Low Wood Bay as a treat for the adults. Brockhole centre is practically across the road, boats on windermere, Grizedale forest, Lakeside & Haverthwaite railway and aquarium.

Liverpool! Absolutely so much to see and do with a child that age including lots of great free museums and art galleries.

Ribby Hall and then visit Blackpool for tower/beach/theme park etc.

There are some good Parkdean and Haven sites around too which would be fun for the little one. We've stayed at the Ty Mawr Parkdean site a few times and our little ones loved it. I know people who like the Hafan Y Mor Haven site too. We are looking at staying at one of the Parkdean sites near Morecambe bay in future and visiting Lancaster as part of the trip as lots to do there too.

Newcastle also great - Discovery museum, Life centre etc.

York.

Start with the National Rail Museum, then do a boat tour. Or you can rent a self steer boat. Walk around the walls. Feed the red squirrels. Jorvik centre and an explore of the streets.
