Travel Insurance Query

I have my travel insurance in place for a holiday in September. I saw my GP yesterday about some stomach issues I'd been having and he's asked me to provide a stool sample, and if it's positive I go for a colonoscopy, if negative he will refer for another test. I will need to declare this to my insurer, won't I? When I took out the insurance there were no issues, apart from declaring that I take asthma medication. Even though I have no results to declare to them, do I bring it to their attention now, or wait to see what happens?

Given you've got some time I'd wait until you have an idea of what's going on, at the moment it's difficult to declare because you don't have a diagnosis

My understanding is you have to declare it. Not all insurers will provide cover if awaiting investigations. Hope you get sorted.

Yes you should. If you later find out you have an issue and need to cancel or move your holiday you won't be covered. Bet it's in the ts&cs

Most insurance companies won't insure you at all if you're undergoing any tests or awaiting diagnosis. Twice I've had to book specialist travel insurance at a higher cost while waiting for a skin cancer and other diagnosis. Making the phone call and the extra £50 was worth it when the trips cost thousands and I would have lost the lot if I'd lied by omission

Thanks everyone, I'll phone them now.

Just got off the phone with them. As I've declared an undiagnosed condition for which I will be being tested, if I'm taken ill on holiday arising from that condition, then they won't pay out. If I get a diagnosis before I go way and declare it to them, then I will be covered. Thinking about how long these things take, I'm not sure I'd have any results/diagnosis back in time!

That's a good result actually. I had one insurer cancel on me for a new undiagnosed condition.

That's good op. Means if anything else happens (lost luggage, broken bone, whatever) you're covered.
