If you could go anywhere in Cornwall

DH and I are planning a five night trip to Cornwall in October. We haven’t been there for almost 20 years. The last time we stayed in a holiday cottage in St Mawes with our two small DDs and MIL.

It’ll be just the two of us this time. We’re flying into Newquay and will hire a car. We want to stay in a really nice hotel and possibly do a two stop trip.

I can’t decide where to go. We’ve stayed in St Ives, Penzance and Padstow on other trips so it might be nice to try somewhere else. I’d prefer somewhere that’s close to pubs and restaurants so ideally in a town.

can anyone suggest a nice town to stay in or even an itinerary for five nights?

And any really good hotel suggestions would be appreciated.

Fowey, Falmouth (the greenbank) or the Cornwall near st austell (but close to the lovely coast there, not in town)
carbis bay isn’t too far from st Ives. Or the pier house in Charlestown.

the only place in Bodmin I’d consider staying is the hotel at the former jail and that tells you all you need to know about Bodmin.

st mawes hotel and idle rocks are lovely 😊

We stayed in one of the English Heritage holiday cottages at Pendennis Castle recently and it was rather wonderful (it's in Falmouth Docks, a short walk from the train station, albeit uphill).

Go to Falmouth - they have just started doing boat trips to the Pandora Inn which is lovely for a relaxed lunch by the water & has great food:

Why would you go all the way to Falmouth from Newquay airport when you have The Pig at Harlyn up the road? Or Watergate Bay? Or Padstow and Port Isaac? Newquay is pants but a short drive opens up loads of lovely possibilities.

There is a nice hotel at Bedruthan Steps which is near Newquay. We live in Cornwall and if you have five days these are the towns /areas to visit excluding the three you mention.

South coast I would go to Falmouth (Falmouth Hotel is nice)
I would do Truro with Hall for Cornwall. Mannings Hotel
Looe
Bude on the North Coast
Port Isaac or Tintagel
Maybe Marazion?
