Things to do with kids in Manchester

We are stopping off in Manchester on the way back from visiting relatives. We will arrive at lunch time, stay overnight and have the next day to do things.

We could also do with restaurant recommendations please.

What would you recommend doing with kids ages 10 and 14?

Thank you.

No idea on eating out, things change so quickly and it’s a couple of years since I’ve been.

How about a visit to Affleck’s Palace? I used to love going there as a Teen and my Teen DC like a mooch around there too.

The Science and Industry Museum and Manchester Art Gallery are both worth a visit.

The imperial war museum is excellent, maybe in your way in/out of the centre depending on your direction of travel.

The National Football Museum or the Man City Stadium Tour if they’re sporty. Otherwise, the Science and Industry Museum is a good shout as it has lots of hands-on exhibits.
If they’re not into museums, there’s Treetop Golf, Pan Man Live Experience or Immersive Gamebox.

I have a similar thread in chat currently. I’m not sure how to link, but if you want a look it’s called Manchester Visit with a Teenager.

Thank you all. I’ve booked pac man so far.

If they like ice cream Ginger's in Afleck's Palace is worth visiting.

Super Massive is brilliant for adults and kids

ZenNudist · 20/07/2025 09:50

Whereabouts? That will help with restaurant recommendations

Not far from PAC Man, there’s a super little cafe called Bruncho which does the most amazing French toast creations! For a main meal, I’d definitely recommend Sapporo Teppanyaki. The flame cooking is great fun to watch, it’s very family friendly and there’s something on the menu for everyone.

I was going to recommend sapporo teppanyaki though it's £££

Can head to Chinatown. We like conveyor belt sushi place wazushi and opposite it Pho cue, an excellent Vietnamese place, budget friendly.

There are lots of restaurants over by the corn exchange which is opposite the Arndale if your 14yo wants to go look at trainers. I like Pho (chain), Delhi house cafe, mowgli and Salvis

Dishoom is great.

If heading to the northern quarter Nells pizza is amazing, absolutely massive slices. Mackie mayor also fab food market.

Near pac man caravan is OK for food but more sharing plates than kid friendly.

For the 10yo go to the play area in the science museum. It's free and lots of fun. There's also a pay for exhibition run in conjunction with the BBC if you can book slots. Won't appeal to 14yo as much but it's fun for adults.

If your children like gaming or arcade games, you have plenty of time to kill, and you're in Manchester on a Thursday, Saturday or Sunday, the Bury Arcade is brilliant. My DCs have been there quite a few times and loved it. You can get a direct tram from Manchester to Bury and it's fairly short walk from there
