Mosquito bite prevention

Hello!

I'm due to go away next month and I always get mauled by mosquitoes. I’ve tried the citronella spray, patches, and jungle related products but nothing helps.

are there any specific tablets or drops I can take that change the taste of your blood or the smell of your hormones ( I’ve read various articles about mosquitoes being attracted to hormones) to keep them away from me?

any advice would be greatly appreciated, I ended up with several nasty infected bites last year on my feet and I couldn’t even put my sandals on 🥺

I have this for after I’ve been bitten: https://amzn.eu/d/cAGbfZP

It stops them itching and then then don’t get infected.

I agree. I suspect that the people who say it works for them just aren't that attractive to biting insects.

Yep!

Honestly, this stuff is awful-it makes you smell rank, is slimy as anything and does not repel against mosquitos. You might as well stay Fry Light all over your body for all the good it will do (and that will probably smell nicer). The only people who seem to be feverishly campaigning for it turn out to be Avon reps or their friends!!

If you get bitten, try Deet.

@QuisCustodietIpsosCustodes You can buy Soffell in other countries in pharmacies and supermarkets, some are 13% deet others 15% sprays/creams and small cream packets are also available.

Did not work for either of us still got bitten, some things just work for some people and not for others.

I had an absolutely miserable holiday in Italy 10 years ago being bitten by mosquitoes. Painful, itchy, hot bites with a massive reaction. I get skeeter syndrome when bitten. I was covered in them.

I’ve been back a few times and found the following helps, take anti-histamines for 4 weeks before travelling and keep taking them while on holiday, Incognito spray, body lotion and zap-ease. 1% hydro cortisone cream for bites. I also take garlic and vitB supplements. I definitely get bitten less and the reaction is not as severe. One year I had 2 bites and they didn’t get swollen and sore just a bit itchy. This year I got bitten less than 10 times and the first few were awful but calmed down quickly.

I use antihistamines, I don't get bitten as much and if I do i don't get the enormous bite marks. Also deet (high strength).

Vitamin b, start taking at least 10 days before travel. I was set upon a few years ago in Egypt, the hives and itching 😮
Went a year later (after doing some research) started taking vit b and no bites.

Incognito products have never failed me. They are just as effective as DEET but not as toxic. I avoid DEET itself after having a roll on where my skin was burnt in red lines where I had rolled it!

That only works for people who are moderately attractive to mosquitoes. Also, there is no scientific evidence to support your claim.

I am aware of the lack of scientific research🙄
I'm just posting what appeared to work for me.
It will do no harm for op to at least try it.
