Fly with fracture?

Might not be a holiday question but didn’t know where to put it.

DD has sustained a fracture to her lower back. It’s stable luckily but of course, it’s a significant injury.

We’re due to go on holiday in 3 weeks (3.5 he flight) and I just wonder if anyone has any experience of flying with a similar injury in a similar time frame?

Consultant has said to review it in two weeks following further X-rays. I know it’s a crystal ball situation but if we can’t go the I’d like to try and make alternative plans so she has some sort of summer.

I broke my back in three places, there were other injuries so that may play a factor . I phoned TUI to see what my options were and they said no way would they allow me to fly . They were great and rearranged the holiday as I had hospital papers . I went three months later . Ring your holiday provider/ airline and insurance to see what they say x

Also comfort wise , your DD might not be able to sit in the seated position for a long time with out feeling discomfort x

I don't think sitting on a plane for 3 hours will do any good for her back. It's going to be very painful.

Oh good point, I’ll call insurance tomorrow as they might have policies in place for this. Thank you, hadn’t considered this.

Glad you recovered well enough to go later!

He said wait for follow up consultation in two weeks which is right before the holiday. We’ve already had to cancel one which was for her hobby so I’d like to make alternative plans if it’s likely to be a no.

No, appointment is going to be 3 days before we are due to fly. She’s moving well now - walking so that’s a positive but of course, it’s still fractured.

Will keep everything crossed for you ! Am glad to hear your DD is recovering well xx

I really feel for your DD. So glad she is on the mend.

Think about it the other way round. If she'd sustained this injury abroad, how soon would you have taken a plane back to UK with a fit to fly certificate?
