DS has been up since 6 and is already fractious, it's pissing it down and we have to get out of the house today so DH can do some work. Any ideas?

DS is 19mo, btw and needs something ACTIVE. In N London so N/E/Central best plan.

LOL, same here altho luckily for me wasn't quite as early!

I'm thinking Science Museum but have to stay I'm not too keen on even leaving the house at the moment!

EffiePerine · 26/05/2008 07:46

will the science museum be packed?

DS loved it last time we were there, spent ages playing with water. A bit difficult for us to get to with a buggy (bus and tube) but will have a think

yeah probably! it's great tho, will see how the weather pans out as at the moment it's pelting down.

i've given up on the buggy tbh and i use one of these: www.ergobabycarriers.com/babycarriers/category/carrier/

my dd is 2.5 and loves going in the "packpack" in the back carry.

brilliant once they're walking too as you can let 'em out when they're restless and pop them back in when they're tired.

ps: check out www.slingmeet.co.uk for UK stockists......

aha, I have one of those but still find it tricky getting DS into it on the back carry. Am also pg so couldn't manage front carry easily.

Tate Modern has THE most fabulous family activies this weekend.

We have THE most marvellous day there yesterday. They are doing loads of children's activities. A mini Olympics were children run races in flippers, with balloons attached to them etc. Blow football, chess with pieces of fruit, ping pong with holes in the table (all in the turbine hall and above) and on Level 5, for the over 5s, your child can pick up a box and bag full of activities for that floor (that you can take away with you).

foxinsocks · 26/05/2008 08:21

it's the Flux festival (meant we HAD not Have the most fabulous time...grr too early for grammar)

actually 19 months might be too young for a lot of it but he might enjoy charging around the race track and you can do some of the races with him!

Paddlechick666 · 26/05/2008 08:28

fox, that sounds cool. i thought it was Lost Weekend festival or something this weekend. I would've liked to have gone to the Nan Goldin event on Saturday night.

I'll check it out. RFH is always a good place for lively toddlers to hoon around too. Mind you, probably totally spoils it for all the non-kid people there

foxinsocks · 26/05/2008 08:35

yes, mine (far older than toddlers ) like doing that in RFH too

my two both took part in the races at the Tate Modern and got medals (so you can tell that participation was the important thing )

I have discovered that Flux is very appealing to children

foxinsocks · 26/05/2008 08:37

the programme's at the bottom

if you do go, I'd get there early because it started getting v full around lunchtime (but I'm sure you know that already!!)

EffiePerine · 26/05/2008 08:37

that sounds great . Tate Modern bussable too which is a bonus.

Was also looking at Discover but Stratford ridiculously difficult for us to get to .

still in PJs finishing off dippy eggs so unlikely to get there before lunchtime LOL!

effie, congrats on pg. i've heard the ergo is a good back carrier for pg.

i wrapped dd from pretty early so when it was time to switch to back carries she was sort of acclimatised to it all.

piggy backs are a good introduction and bending over to keep your back like a table top and telling them to lean forward helps.

gotta go, dd is now eating her eggshell!

ps: if we both end up at TM keep an eye out for me. I'll have the very tall toddler with blonde curls and a cranberry ergo around my waist probably empty!

EffiePerine · 27/05/2008 06:13

well we did end up at the Tate but wasn't great for toddlers tbh. Too many stairs, lifts and other interesting places for DS to run towards. The RFH was great though - lots of space, nice shallow stairs, lots of children to amuse DS
