Esta renewal question

pippapipps · 08/07/2025 15:03

Went to Boston August 2023 with my dd so our esta's expire in August this year.. I want to renew our Esta's but can I do this without being able to fill in the accommodation section where it asks for the address and phone number etc of where you are staying?
Also any other relevant questions I wouldn't be able to fill in regarding accommodation, reasons for travelling etc
TIA

Personally, I would not mess with anything to do with US immigration rights at the moment- you’ll give them a reason to refuse you entry (and they don’t need much).
Why can’t you provide the information they want?
I did ours a couple of weeks ago and was very thorough about everything. They were approved same day.
N.B. You have to provide a selfie this time too

If you are not planning to travel to the US then why and try a renew them now? Makes no sense. Just do them at the point you are going to need them.

This, you’re wasting your money, and time on the Esta, if you’re not travelling anytime soon or this year. Also, you only need a selfie on the app, not the website.

When you update the ESTA I believe it asks for the address or hotel accommodation you are staying in.

The ESTA will expire after 2 years regardless of whether it is or is not updated; it does not rollover.

Sorry what I should have said in my op was that I can travel through staff travel so basically if an opportunity comes up and I'm free off we go

Therefore I usually only have a few days notice hence why I thought I could just renew now and avoid any delays and stress sorting it out within a couple of days

From the ESTA website

Can I apply for an ESTA without having confirmed travel plans?
Yes. Specific travel plans are not mandatory at the time of application, but you will need a U.S. point of contact.
Although specific travel plans are not required, the address where you will be staying in the United States is recommended to complete the application. If multiple locations are planned, you only need to enter the first address. If a complete address is not known, you can enter the name of the hotel or location you will visit.
If you are in transit, please select 'yes' to the 'Is your travel to the U.S. occurring in transit to another country?' question in the Travel Information section.

If your accommodation changes after your ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is approved, you don't need to update your ESTA. The ESTA is valid for multiple trips over a two-year period, and the address information is primarily relevant for your first night's stay or if you are in transit. You will provide your updated address information when you check in for your flight to the US.

Here's why:
ESTA is for travel authorization, not specific accommodation details:
Your ESTA is essentially permission to travel to the US under the Visa Waiver Program, not a guarantee of a specific hotel or address.

Address is collected at check-in:
When you check in for your flight to the US, you'll be asked for your first night's accommodation address, and this information is then provided to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

No need to update for multiple trips:
The ESTA is valid for multiple trips within its two-year validity period, and you don't need to update it each time you change your accommodation or travel to a different location within the US.

ESTA validity:
Your ESTA remains valid even if you change your accommodation, as long as your passport and other relevant information haven't changed.

Do you work for a business with a US office? I also get some last minute travel opportunities and have used my companies overseas office addresses before for visas. (if you work for a tour operator you could also use a DMC address)
