Would you cancel holiday?

I’ve booked a holiday - did check reviews but misssed some regarding theft from rooms whilst guests sleeping. There were 2 both on same day a few months ago, all positive reviews since. Would you cancel?

No. I'd just take extra security precautions but it sounds like it was a one off.

Depends on if you can cancel/change without losing money. If not then I would still go but be extra careful with passports, phones and money when there and leave any valuables at home.

Titasaducksarse · 07/07/2025 11:04

No I wouldn't cancel. Yes I'd take a door stop or put chair against door overnight.

Thanks for the replies so far 😊

No, things like this can happen regardless where you go, just take extra precautions and use the room safe if they have one

Starsunnyyoo · 07/07/2025 11:32

@andanotherproblem thanks. It more that they broke in while the guest were in the room sleeping 😟

Yes I can understand that, I should think of it happened twice the hotel will be more on guard regarding these instances, however they usually say on holidays when these things happen it’s usually the staff

Dinkytoy · 07/07/2025 11:34

No I wouldn't cancel. I do know someone who was robbed as they slept on holiday in a villa and it had an awful effect on them, the burglars had been in the bedroom where she was asleep naked on the bed.
If you want to feel secure you could always take those stick on alarms for doors and windows, they're cheap and small enough to pack.

@Dinkytoy 😞

No I wouldn’t cancel because of two reviews going back months. If there was ongoing and frequent reviews stating this then I would maybe have concerns about the security.

DaisyChain505 · 08/07/2025 09:18

This could happen anywhere OP, I would ask for a hotel room that wasn’t on the ground floor, get a secure portable room lock for the door just incase.

MadridMadridMadrid · 08/07/2025 09:57

Can you cancel for free or would you lose a significant amount of money if you cancel? How many positive reviews have there been since the two that reported thefts? Ten, fifty, over one hundred? Two on the same day and nothing since suggests to me that maybe the thefts were committed by a guest at the hotel, or that the hotel management identified the member of staff responsible and sacked him/her.

No just be very security conscious while you’re there. Good old fashioned chair by the door at night would work!
Also ask for a room not on the ground floor and lock or at least close any balcony windows overnight

mummybear35 · 08/07/2025 11:02

Door wedge, never travel without one and my now adult kids do the same…last person in before bed, wedge under the door stops anyone coming in while you’re asleep..

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 08/07/2025 11:04

No i wouldn't cancel, i would email requesting a higher floor room if possible, i do that for every holiday.
