Has anyone took the coach from London to Paris

There’s a cheap option from London to Paris but it’s overnight, has anyone done it? Did you manage to get any sleep?

Really interested in this if you get an answer!

Did it 30 years ago overnight to Paris and 35 years ago London to Bordeaux. No sleep at all but I can't sleep unless I'm horizontal.

andanotherproblem · 06/07/2025 17:28

some Of my family did it recently and said they couldn’t sleep at all but I can’t fully believe their opinions as they do have a tendency to complain about everything. I used to take a 12 hour coach from London to Dublin and managed to sleep fine so I’m curious

Yes- when I was a teenager- and no. But again, I can't sleep sitting up. You'll know whether you can or not OP.

WaitedBlankey · 06/07/2025 17:37

I have done it a couple of times. No real sleep, just a couple of short naps.

I can sleep anywhere doesn’t bother me, I just don’t want to be tired and groggy all day

Yes plenty of times, on Eurolines. Also from London to Milan which is much more of a slog. I can sleep anywhere too so just take a neck pillow and an eyemask and you'll be grand!
Eurostar are having a sale atm though if you fancy a bit more speed and comfort 😝

gottalottodo · 06/07/2025 17:45

I went on a coach for Essex to Barcelona (with 50 kids on a school trip) we went through Paris. It was actually lovely seeing all the scenery from the coach. I slept ok, and found it reasonably comfortable

ShakespeareInTurmoil · 06/07/2025 17:45

I did to Barcelona once for a school trip and I can’t say I loved it! I did sleep though, uncomfortably.

Thank you! Ah yes I did notice on their website but I would be going a few days before the sale starts unfortunately. I was considering Eurostar but it’s was something like £700 for two of us compared to the e coach which is £180, I don’t mind paying abit extra for comfort and convenience but I can’t help but think that’s a bit excessive

I’ve done it a number of times over recent years. Firstly, it was a shame Eurolines stopped their service around Covid , and didn’t ever resume, as it was the best. The other service I’ve used is Flixbus , which is the Ryanair of coach services. Perfectly acceptable, but no frills, and I thought managed to squeeze in more rows of seats which reduced legroom. But overall it’s cheap, clean, safe and you get a few stops to stretch your legs and buy a coffee. They tend to go on the ferry (not always) rather than through the tunnel, so can take a big longer, but you get more time off the coach. I’d go for it - it can be a very cheap option depending on dates.

Yeah that's a big difference. I'm going away just after the sale ends so I feel your pain! Coach will be fine, download something to watch/ listen to and wear something comfy

Tireddadplus · 06/07/2025 18:27

If the channel crossing is really late at night it can be annoying as that takes a while and you have to get out.

Neck pillow, eye mask, earplugs, wine and a window seat and you will snooze all the way! Try not to be near the toilet! Gets a bit shabby after 8 hours.

TreesAtSea · 06/07/2025 18:39

I've done overnight coaches from London to cities in the Netherlands and Germany a number of times some years back, with Eurolines and Ouibus. Didn't sleep a wink on any of them, but I never can in unusual circumstances anyway, plus I was travelling alone so hyper-aware of personal belongings etc. Most people around me seemed to get at least some sleep, though, and the cost savings can certainly be significant.
Enjoy Paris!

You could try Eurostar snap. You pay around & £39 each way but you don't know what time until 48 hours before. I do it a lot and usually get given a 4pm train both ways

Oh I will look into that, thank you

I paid £5 to do it on Megabus about 12 years ago, and no didn’t sleep just dozed intermittently but I was young and at that price I didn’t care.

StarlightLady · 07/07/2025 07:12

How cheap is cheap? Eurostat offer a £35 fare but you have to let them decide your departure time. It’s bound to be at silly o’clock, but even then it would be in far more comfort.

It’s around £180 for two people on the coach and £700 for the Eurostar, no matter what time of day

The money I save not using the Eurostar could easily pay for the hotel

I did it years ago and managed to get some sleep. Was a bit groggy but that soon wore off. Depends how easy you can sleep and how badly you are affected by a day of little sleep. Everyone’s different.

There are loads of youtube videos of people using this bus. This will give you an idea of what it is like.
