Ideas for multi-week trip in August with kids

DH and I are unexpectedly both off work for the whole of August. We'd love to make the most of the opportunity with a family trip we wouldn't otherwise be able to do, whether longhaul or multi destination or road trip. We have DDs 9 & 6.

I don't know where to start! Where have you loved, that requires 2-4 weeks to do properly?

We're not on a specific budget, but look for value for money, so not aiming for luxury. Not particularly cultured RE museums or galleries. A bit outdoorsy, we like cycling and walking and swimming, not really tried anything more adventurous than that. Would like the kids to get a taste of a different culture or landscape. (Typical holiday would usually be a Eurocamp with splash park and cycle rides and kids club.)

Thoughts so far...
Roadtrip or interrail in Europe (but where? Don't want to be tooo hot)
Roadtrip in Canada? Enough to interst the kids?
Somewhere in South East Asia?
Somewhere in South America?
Safari? Probably too hot.
Caribbean?

Any suggestions welcomed!
(We went to Japan on our honeymoon so anywhere but there!)

Safari wouldn't be too hot in August - South Africa is southern hemisphere.
It's pretty late notice though, so I'm not sure what you'd get.

Caribbean isn't ideal weather in August.

Somewhere like Annecy in France or Switzerland would be nice if you like swimming and cycling.

You could also consider a cruise - it would let you see lots of different places.

I'd recommend talking to a real life travel agent who can help you narrow things down, but think through what you really want and your budget first. You must have one, even if you think you don't. Some people would spend £100k+ on four weeks and others would want to spend £4k. Even a range is useful.

We’re doing 2 weeks in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. Maybe you could do something similar but add Thailand?

Thanks @schmalex fair point on the budget, I guess I'd expect to spend at least £3k for DIY/shorthaul, but £5k more realistic for this duration (maybe cap at £8k for trip of a lifetime but DH may have other ideas 😂)

Costa Rica or Vietnam are popular with families. Both can be very expensive if you book everything through a company like trailfinders but from what friends have told me both easy to navigate independently.....they are on our list for next summer.

North Europe/ Scandinavian road trip?

Efteling, Legoland/ Lego house etc for the kids plus a series of mini city breaks along the way e.g Bruges, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Oslo and time for rural/ beach stays in-between.

East side of Canada (Quebec City - Montreal - Toronto - Niagara Falls). The distances are shorter than the west side, there’s more for kids to do and it’s marginally cheaper than the west. there are also loads of family-friendly events on at that time of year. I could send you our 3 week itinerary if you’re interested.

As it’s short notice I would pack up the car and head to Dover, road trip through France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and perhaps Austria and Italian lakes. There’s a tropical pool /campsire place in Germany I’m told is good, check out the fairy tale castles (Fussen) and a campsite on the Italian lakes is fun for kids too. Avoid the motorways in Austria and Switzerland as fees are high and you have to buy passes. End up at europa parc for theme park fun before heading home

We're spending 3 weeks Interrailing through Europe this summer. It's a great thing to do with under 12s as they get free passes!

A good itinerary with kids that young might be Amsterdam, Hamburg for Miniatur Wunderland, maybe Scandinavia (even if just popping over to Denmark for Legoland?), Berlin, then some Baltic sea resorts, maybe Poland and the Baltic States.
