Possibly dodgy accommodation

Hi all, I’m hoping to get some advice regarding a holiday to Gdansk in October. After our accommodation sending us an email earlier in the week stating that they had changed our accommodation, I had a closer look at the reviews not on the booking website. Reader, they are awful. Silverfish, noise, dirt, rude staff and no help if you arrive after 7pm, and worst of all multiple accounts of the company taking money from accounts for “damages” after checkout.
I feel like such an idiot, most of the booking was done through the booking website so that shouldn’t be a problem, but we were so dazzled by the pics that I stupidly paid for another two nights, which the hotel said I had to do through them. What do we do? Is there anyway of claiming that money back through my travel insurance or do I most likely just chalk it up to a loss. I’m pretty sure I’m going to cancel- I’d rather just take a loss and have a nice holiday than potentially be stuck in a horrible place for a week and run the risk of losing more money! I just wanted to see if anybody had been faced with a similar dilemma and what they did in the end. TIA

Is there a cooling off period?

If you paid by credit card, could you do a chargeback, S75 stating misrepresentation of your contract?

Thank you, I did use a debit card, but my account will investigate fraudulent claims, so I could try it.
I’ve kind of chalked it up for a loss to be honest, but am going to investigate my options.

You can also do a chargeback on debit cards @BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop

The majority of the booking is through Booking.com so I’m not worried about that, but when we extended the booking the hotel said to do it directly through them- I think I’m beyond any cooling off period. I’ll cancel and give them some time to refund, and then if they don’t I’ll pursue through the bank.

I just feel a bit daft because we were so dazzled by the booking.com listing, I’ve been so excited about it. But better to find out now than when I’m picking silverfish out of my luggage.
