Malta -what to take?

DH and I are going to Malta for the month of October, and I'd love some advice about what to take. We're far too old to lie on a beach and expose dimpled flesh in the sea. So that's no swimming cozzies, then. So...I thought 2 pairs easy-wash shorts, 4 tees, 2 long-sleeved tees, 2 pairs trousers, 1 culotte that looks quite smart, a couple of linen shirts, cool and airy, a jacket, medium weight, 2 pairs trainers. The accommodation has washing/ironing facilities. We're not dress-up people, won't be going out to posh eateries. We like historical sites, long walks, cafes for people-watching. DH won't be happy until he sees the Sliema Wanderers again for a few pints. What do you think, of wise ones who know Malta in October? Can I expect cold weather? Advice gratefully received...many thanks.

Yes, I know there's a M&S there, it's not entirely a cultural desert, but would rather not be shopping on holiday. Cheers.

Take your cossies anyway. The sea cares not if your flesh is dimpled.

Sandals/flip flops.

Pashmina or wide long light scarf to cover your head and shoulders respectfully in places of worship you may wish to visit.

Ps excellent username. I tip my hat.

It won't be cold, maybe 24 deg in the daytime and mid teens over night.

I spent 12 weeks in Malta, I would just take what you would wear at home. It's not particularly warm in October

I used to live in Malta. October is a tricky month to pack for as it can sometimes turn quite cold (for Malta). It isn’t really sunbathing weather, though you can definitely still swim in the sea.

Take clothes for a warm spring day in the UK, but take a pair of trousers and a jumper in case you have a chilly/overcast day. What you would wear in April/May here, basically. And take an umbrella - it doesn’t often rain in Malta, but when it does it is a biblical deluge not a light shower.

Yes, in the month of October you'll see almost all the weather from hot and sunny to cool and stormy so you need clothes you can layer, a light waterproof and shoes that withstand the rain.

Malta is not known as a beach destination but there are ample opportunities for sea swimming and plenty of the flesh will be old and wrinkly so definitely take at least one swimsuit each so you can join them.

Thank you so much for the advice. A great help in packing light!

I think we were unlucky but it rained really hard for nearly two weeks when we went in october. so i would take a really good rain mack and waterproof footwear. and a strong umbrella and lots of books to read

Some sort of waterproof walking sandals-the coastline is often quite rocky and sharp. But you won’t want to miss the pretty bits!
