7 nights vs 10 nights

Currently booked to go to Barbados for 7 nights over the winter. Land back Sunday morning and have work on the Monday.

I have the option to extend the trip to 10 nights, but it would be flying back landing Wednesday morning and I would need to go to work that day.

What do you think is better?

Sunday. I’ve done many red eye flights and going straight into work is never good.

Clearinguptheclutter · 04/07/2025 13:14

I wouldn’t get off an overnight flight and go straight into work.
i’d work from home though especially if I could mostly avoid meetings!
its a long way for a week, if possible I’d stay the longer duration and take an extra day off.
assume 9 nights is not a possibility?

If you can WFH then do 10 nights, otherwise just do the week, the thought of going straight into the office would spoil then end of the holiday for me!

10 nights definitely. Worth it for being a bit tired. Flight to Barbados is not that long jet lag should not be bad.

10 nights as long as your employer will be flexible if you're late due to a delay. Not sure why you'd need to WFH as suggested!

10 nights if it’s business class and 7 nights if economy.

AvidJadeShaker · 04/07/2025 17:30

Actually 7 nights, I’m thinking back to how I feel the day I land and I can just about function and definitely couldn’t go to work.

EdgarAllenRaven · 04/07/2025 23:37

The thing is, 7 nights isn’t really long enough to relax … I’ve done that and it just wasn’t long enough.
So I’d go for the 10, have a slightly tired and crappy day at work, then sleep!

Because for many WFH doesn't mean much "work" 🤨
I'd probably do 7, coming back to a busy week would ruin any if the relaxing I did. I like your idea of having the Monday off when you get back. Ideally I'd do 10 days and have Wednesday off when you get back.

I’d come back and work the rest of the week and in fact I do this! Helps to get back on UK time. If I land in the morning after an overnight flight I work the afternoon and WFH and use it to go through my emails/ have quick 121s to find out what I missed whilst I was off. Early night and in the office the next day.
