Chamonix or similar in October

Looking for advice as I am not used to booking holidays abroad.

If we don't want to ski, is there enough to do in Chamonix in October (around UK half term)?

It will be me, DH, DS18 and DD13. We enjoy walking, hiking, mountains, lakes, swimming...generally being outdoors.

Or other suggestions that would tick above boxes? Probably a 4 night stay.

Worried about anywhere toobusy. DS has ASD and none of us enjoy crowds.

Thanks

Not Chamonix. It's unlikely to be very open and will probably be grey, cold and wet without snow. You certainly won't be swimming. It wouldn't be safe hiking high up at that time of year. How about the Sierra Nevada or the Lycean Way in Antalya?

Thanks, not looking for a long flight and quite happy in the cold air/water, but preferably not rainy.

Brienz in Switzerland is well connected by public transport all year round. Plenty to do, and lovely walks. It’s very scenic but not as busy as Interlaken. It’s not far from Zurich, if you can get flights there.

October can be pretty nice in Chamonix but all the lifts will be closed except the aiguille du midi. Some restaurants might close for refurbishment and so on that time of year before ski season starts again but I shouldn't imagine it's a ghost town.

I usually go the other end of the year before it gets going in summer. Pp is right weather can be changeable. But if you get a good weather week you'll have a great time.

The outdoor pool will be closed, you wouldn't want to swim in the mountain lakes either. Low level hiking is fine, the petit balcon sud will be nice and lots of other trails.

The local trains and buses will run, you can go to Geneva or along the valley to Vallorcine for a change of scene.

Sierra Nevada in Spain Wink they're the mountains above Granada. Fly into Malaga, swim on the beach then hike in the mountains. Lycean way is Turkey, so 4h but you'll definitely be able to swim.
