First time eurocamp type holiday HELP

Looking at camping in France July 2026. Two adults and 6 yo, 4 yo and 1 yo. Don’t actually want to camp though. Would be looking at one of those static caravans. There are so many camp sites to choose from.

would be getting the ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff.

I like the look of Yelloh! Village Les Grands Pins but worried it will be too long a drive from Roscoff and too hot once we arrive. Apparently there is no air con in the accommodation. Anyone got any experience of this?

can anyone recommend somewhere closer to Roscoff or will the drive be ok? Apparently loads of traffic around Bordeaux?

Needs to have: swimming pool, close to beach/water.

would prefer somewhere not too crazy busy or overcrowded. Doesn’t need to have much night time entertainment as my kids are young and can entertain themselves. It’s all about the day time.

Thanks

Definitely Les Mouettes

I think the drive so far south would be really long with children that age. We've done it with a 9 year old, and it seemed never ending. There are lots of nice sites in Brittany and the Venice which don't take as long to get to, plus it tends not to be as hot as further south.

We’ve done lots of Eurocamp holidays over the last few years. Our favourite site was L’Atlantique in Fouesnant, which has a gorgeous beach and a big indoor soft play, as well as pool with water slides etc.

We went to Les Grands Pins in May half term. It’s a great site but we were given 1 fan for 2 bedrooms. It was uncomfortable the 2 days it was 30C.

Wow this one is so close the Roscoff. It is very tempting I have to say and would make life every easy. Have you been in the summer holidays? What was the weather like? I’m hoping for something along the lines of “nice and warm”

Thanks @Ditsy79 I appreciate your honesty and tbh it’s what I needed to hear

This one looks great. Definitely adding it to the short list. Thanks for your help

We went to Trinite Sur Mer in Britany. Take a couple of fans! It’s got a pool and it worked for us for a couple of years when dc under 7.

We had a good stay with kids in the Vendée region. Site was called Clarys Plage. It had a good pool area and was close to a nice sandy beach. No air con in the statics, but you could take your own fans in your car. We sailed to St Malo and the drive was ok from there. About 3 hours I think. However, the night ferry is quite expensive now so I'd look at sailing to Calais the day before and making a hotel stop in France en route.

thie is a lovely site. If you get the overnight ferry from Portsmouth it’s 30 mins drive France side. Roan, yelloh and eurocamp all offer statics here. Eurocamp you can book your crossings and your holiday as a package. We looked at staying with roan but pandemic hit! They refunded fully despite their terms saying we would loose some money. Have stayed on this site with eurocamp and you can also book direct. St Malo is a lovely walled town and beaches nearby.

we usually drive over. Stopping over night at Folkestone to get an early train. It is 4 hours once you get to France.

My all time favourite French campsite - and we've done a lot of them over the last 20 years - is chateau des Ormes in dol de Bretagne https://www.eurocamp.co.uk/campsites/france/brittany/domaine-des-ormes-campsite?cqsrc=googleeads&cqcmp=17989241661&cqqcon=135128742370&cqterm=domaine%20des%20ormes%20camping&cqqmed=&cqplac=&cqqnet=g&cqpos=&cqqplt=gp&gclsrc=aw.ds&gadsource=1&gaddcampaignid=17989241661&gbraid=0AAAAADrGIEWJIcs7xF1Ls149yoxED5kR&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7Y3hrpGXjgMVr4FQBh0O-BPQEAAYASAAEgJB5vDD_BwE

It has indoor and outdoor pools, plenty of activities and restaurants/takeaways/bars and it is a short walk to the local village. Close by there are beaches and small towns, we had a day out at mont saint-michel and also a day at the aquarium in st malo.

doodleschnoodle · 29/06/2025 18:21

We are off to Domaines des Ormes in a week or so, so glad to see it mentioned favourably here! I can report back on our return!

We’ve done Clarys Plage two or three times, the first time when they were 4. The ferry isn’t cheap but we looked on it as part of the actual holiday. We also now book aircon as an added extra now.

We had a few cloudy days when we stayed at Les Mouettes, but my dc were happy on the beach regardless, and the indoor pool complex was still nice and warm so it didn’t really affect us too much. Otherwise we had blue skies and sunshine.
