Looking for some help deciding where to stay in Sorento Italy please.
family of 3 as DH is sadly working so won’t be coming.
A teenager and a 10 year old,
such a tricky age gap trying to keep everyone happy.
Ideally a hotel with pool and location near the beach, shops restaurants as I won’t be driving in Italy, I struggle with mad drivers in the UK!
4 star plus with water activities and some football/ tennis/ basketball access for my youngest.
I think I may be asking for too much?
Be very grateful for any advice ❤️

We did Sorrento last year and we loved it but it’s just not the area you got to for what you’ve described! To start with there aren’t many sandy beaches, they have beach clubs but are usually concrete platforms. It’s a wonderful base to explore the Amalfi coast, Pompeii and Capri but if you are looking for a hotel with activities etc you’d be better looking in Spain or Greek islands. We went with my then 13 year old to Hotel Parco del Sole In Sant'Agnello, it was all inclusive and had a lovely pool that you could have inflatables in a some musical entertainment in the evening but not activities etc. we did boat trips along the Amalfi coast and to Capri and took the train to Pompeii as well as exploring Sorento itself. It was a wonderful holiday that I will cherish but it was hard going in the heat and the crowds were crazy in August. I don’t think I would have done it with any younger children. I would recommend looking somewhere else this year and trying Sorrento in the future.

I've stayed at this hotel as well, it's nice but exactly what mummyspennies says. Sorrento is beautiful but it's not a beach holiday

I loved Sorrento but I wouldn't have taken children that age and definitely not during August school holidays. I can't see a 10 year old traipsing round Herculaneum and Pompeii or appreciating the gorgeous coastal views.....We hardly saw any children amongst the tourists that were there. We went as a couple and to be honest it was mostly couples that we saw.

With that age gap you will need to think really hard about where to go so that you all have a nice time.

amalfi coast is not ideal for this. If you want Italy then possible Adriatic or lake Garda would be better. Would you consider something like eurocamp? Lots of activities for all ages and safe environment for kids to have some indépendance? Adriatic would also mean easy access to a day trip to Venice by water bus if you also wanted culture!

I'm another person who'd never do Sorrento in August with kids. We've taken them twice in October and done Vesuvius/Pompeii/Capri which is all easy on trains/boats from Sorrento (there is absolutely no way I'd drive there). But it isn't a beach holiday.

I think children might find sorrento a bit boring. Maybe save that trip for you and your husband. It's a beautiful place but all the hotels are not really aimed at children at all from what I saw when I was there.

Thankyou for all your advice and apologies for late response - I have been on google for the past 4 evenings searching - its done my head in tbh!

We will leave Sorrento for a time when we can leave the DC’s at home 😆

We nearly ended up on a cruise but having done a few in the past I can't be bothered with the pressure of dressing appropriately for dinner
.
It will probably be Majorca which is a safe bet 🤞
