Where else will we enjoy a summer holiday in Europe?

Looking for some fresh ideas (planning for next year, as this year our summer vacay is in the UK).

Two kids, one primary, one teen. Will happily drive to Europe and don’t mind a long trip or a ferry. We don’t seek out intense heat which limits how far south into France/Italy we have considered. We like activities like scrambling and cycling and watersports and swimming with some sightseeing thrown in.

We have enjoyed:

  • Centerparcs/Disney France
  • Ghent/Antwerp/Rotterdam/Dutch coastal Centerparcs trip
  • Beekse Bergen in Netherlands, with stops at Dunkirk and Bruges
  • EuropaPark/ French mobile home/Colmar and eastern France trip

Considering Morzine but does it get overcrowded and feel a bit charmless?

Or Zell am Ziller in the Austrian Alps with a stop in Phantasialand but it is sooooo far to drive we would have to be sure we would love it.

Would Wales be a good trip? I don’t mind a bit of damp but two weeks of rain would sadden me.

Camping Manor Farm in Switzerland. There’s loads to to nearby, it’s a very family friendly park and you get free public transport included in your stay.

I drove down to the Spanish Pyrenees with the DC last year. We got the ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff , had stops in Brittany, Saintes and the Landes, spent a week in the Pyrenees, then spent a few nights in Bilbao before getting the ferry back from Santander.

We stayed near Bielsa in the Monte Perdido National Park, and it was stunning. It wasn't overtouristed at all. We mostly hiked and went swimming in the rivers. It wasn't too hot in the mountains, but there was one day we descended to visit Ainsa and it was 40 degrees! Then the weather broke (dramatically- we lost our awning that night 😬), and Bilbao was perfect sightseeing weather.

Brittany, around Perros Guirec, beautiful coastline, water sports, beaches, lovely old towns with markets, easy journey from ferry at Caen or St Malo.

Agree, and there's also a ferry from Plymouth- Roscoff, which is even closer.

I would fly to Copenhagen - do Copenhagen for 5 days which includes nice beaches, theme parks, big outdoor food courts, kayaking, swimming in lidos by the sea , biking museum , cycling etc and then get the train up to Stockholm - ( very pretty route takes 5 hours) day trips out to the lakes and the archipelago islands

its not cheap in Denmark for eating and drinking ‘out’ but there are ways to make it cheaper - Sweden around London money . However a lot of very affordable accommodation balances it off - even many of their family rooms in hostels are great!!

we lived there fir20 months and I think it’s great for families who don’t want mega hot weather- we had 2 sunny summers when it wasn’t that nice in the UK - an awful lot of 23 degrees and sunny , blue skys, blue sea and white sand beaches-

I love these suggestions thank you! Lots or research for me to do. Ferry would be popular with the kids who are good travelers!

Zeeland - beautiful villages, seal watching boat trips, go-ape, Neeltje Jans delta park, sandy beaches.

Jura, Lac du Chalain

Belgian Ardennes - caves, animal parcs, lakes, forests.

Dordogne - so much to do for kids I don't know where to start.
