We ( hubby, Dc1 and 2 (aged 5 and 3) and I) are going to the peak district next week. Also to note: I'm pregnant, so I guess there's little ill be able to go on, but both children love rides!

For those who have been to both, which would you recommend?

We definitely wouldn't do both, but we do plan to visit alton towers water park one day.

I've been to both, I'd chose CBeebies. I love Gullivers at Milton Keynes but the terrain at Matlock makes it quite exhausting 😅. The rides aren't that great either.

I’d agree with the above, albeit not done the Matlock one but CBeebies, there’s also some of the main park you can do with a small swinging ship and there’s the aquarium but just check the rides height requirements!

Gullivers at Matlock is likely to be quieter and cheaper, but as others have said, the park (and rides) are on a steep cliff face. The benefit of this is that it is probably more compact than a 'flatter' theme park and they do have chair lifts around some of the park, which are a "ride" in themselves, and there's also benches everywhere but it depends on how much you're happy to walk. We went a lot as children and I took my 5 year old son there last summer, they had some new rides as well as the "old" favourites. That said, whilst I've been to Alton Towers several times, I haven't ever been to Ceebeebies.

Also where are you staying? It's quite a way to Alton Towers from most areas of the Peak District, particularly if its just for the day.

For the kids I'd do Gulliver's. They're run down dumps but the kids don't see that.

Queues will be so much shorter and at that age the rides are all much of a muchness.

Kids wise gullivers, a bit steep but now they have travelators at the higher level! I managed a wheelchair user and a bairn on my back so it’s more than doable, at that age it’s way better , no queuing particularly either.

We stayed near Gullivers and said every morning when we woke up and looked at it that it looked like it was about to fall down. Wouldn’t take my kids there.

peak district was stunning.

Gullivers, they’ll be able to go on more or less everything. Alton Towers you’ll be limited to CBeebies world only.

Danikm151 · 24/06/2025 07:07

You won’t be limited to just cbeebies land at Alton towers. There’s the cuckoo land area aswell( gangsta granny, the cars) and the pirate cove which has an aquarium.

you can get combi tickets for the water park and main park too

Were staying at Thorpe, so not too far from AT. Opinion seems divided 😅 I'm still not decided. I'm wondering would GT at Matlock be too much for me with my pregnancy. Or would it actually be better because with less queues maybe both boys would get on more rides as there'll be only one parent able to go!! I don't know!!
