Documents needed for Spain

Hi, Flying to Spain soon and staying in a couple of places. I know I need to fill in details for airline. One of airbnbs also sent me some documents to fill in before arrival. Seem a Spanish Govt thing.
I am also now wondering what docs we need ready for border control. Have seen sites saying need proof of travel insurance, money to support yourselves whilst there. Anything I am missing?

Has anyone had recent experience with Spain? Not asked for this before so want to make sure.

When you go through the gates what happens re stamping your passport? I’m curious as we had to go through the line to go up to a window and get the passport stamped.

There were two border guards at a desk (not the formal counter box things where you also get your passport scanned and they look at you suspiciously for just long enough to make you think they're deciding if you look like someone on Interpol's most wanted list but in reality they're just trying to not piss themselves laughing at how bad your passport photo is) but just a normal office type desk. That's where everyone who had been through the egates got their passports stamped.

The above was anyone travelling without children. They were sending anyone with children to the normal counters instead but this was in term time so 90% of passengers didn't have DC with them.

Aw cool I just wondered how that worked, so through the gates and then see a border agent just for the stamping.

Key things you’ll need: passport, travel insurance, a return flight, and proof of funds (could be a bank statement, card, or some cash). Airbnb bookings are fine too, since many hosts handle guest registration with local authorities. If you line up activities, companies like Guided Spain Tours usually provide official paperwork, which can also count as proof of your plans if border control asks.

Do you need to have a return flight booked ? What happens if you haven’t? Have never been asked this before (or any of the other info mentioned above), but our plan next year is to fly out with a couple of weeks of accommodation booked, and then decide whether we want to stay for longer when we are out there.

Please be aware there are changes coming in October, they may not immediately be doing it everywhere but I would not rely anymore on older stories:

EU Entry/Exit System

Information about changing requirements for UK nationals travelling to countries in the Schengen area.

That just requires a fingerprint and photo on entry, rather than extra documentation awaits all the inevitable stories in the right wing press about how the nasty EU is imposing horrid new rules and prison style checks on good British citizens that they thought would only apply to People From Other Countries when they encouraged people to vote to leave the EU.

Once established it will probably speed things up because the border guards won't need to manually decide whether a person with loads of stamps in their passport is at risk of exceeding the 90 in 180 days rule.
