Recommendations where to stay Cornwall

I was hoping to go just for 3/4 days to Cornwall mid July, needs to be no more that about £400 for accommodation really.
Not sure which location is best, and any ideas of things to do, it will just be me and my 18yr old DD.
So far, I've looked at Pendennis Castle, Newquay Aquarium, St Michael's Mount, Seal Island boat trip for possible things to do, but they are all quite spaced out.
Don't want anywhere too busy, as I've heard Newquay can be, but also not in the middle of nowhere!
I'm not too keen on some of these places to stay that hasn't got much else around or is a house on someone's farm or something, being just me and DD, perhaps a holiday park would be better as always people around?

Have you looked at the Premier inn in Newquay?. Is there any flexibility on the budget, can it be at all increased even a little?. You may need to do this.

We stayed at Perran Sands Haven in Perranporth at Easter. I would recommend, it’s not too full on a site compared to other Havens we have stayed at, and Perranporth is lovely and accessible for the places you want to visit.
You can get 3 nights under your budget.

Lloki · 17/06/2025 22:27

Yes, I could increase my budget a bit if worth it

Just looking at Perran Sands, looks like 3 nights is only available from a Fri for the weekend which is no good

Bude is only just inside Cornwall but really nice, plenty to do and Lovely beaches, been many times! There are a few chalet parks that are reasonably priced, widemouth bay, penstowe park just outside of Bude but only 10 mins by car, you pay more if you stay near a beach!

Have a look at activities with Newquay Water Sports Centre. They’re absolutely outstanding

Scallywag2023 · 17/06/2025 22:57

Agree with Bude being ideal - lots to do there and it’s great for kids. I love all along the north coast because you’ll find locations that are less crowded than Newquay / St ives and absolutely stunning coastline. Polzeath is our favourite, it’s busy but a massive beach so you can always find somewhere to sit.

Lloki · 17/06/2025 23:26

Ah, I haven't seen much in Bude, I'll have a look

John Fowler holidays do cheap breaks to Devon and Cornwall. Or Air B n B? July will be pricy in Cornwall unfortunately.

You can do 4 nights Monday to Friday I believe.

We normally stay in Hayle when we go. It seems fairly more in the middle of Cornwall so nothing seems like too much of a drive

Hendra Holiday Park, just outside of Newquay. Great facilities, kids loved it, and it's so clean. Not a chain either, which makes it more cared for. Great for exploring Newquay but also north coast in general.

Perran sands and hendra lovely, and lizard point Park Dean Holiday park.

Hurryuphumphreygeorgeiswaiting · 18/06/2025 21:45

Holywell bay. Stunning beach. We stayed at park dean holiday park which is 10 minute walk to the beach. It is 15 minute drive to Newquay, 20 minutes to Truro. If you book either June or September the prices are low but much higher in the school holidays.

Bude is great, fantastic beaches. If you stay at Bude Holiday Park you’re right on the coast path and walking distance to the town and beaches. They usually have some good deals there so hopefully not too expensive.

Where are you travelling from? 3/4 days after a very long journey wouldn't give me time to recover from the trip!

Polzeath is great. Lovely beach and you can hire the wet suits and surf boards / bodyboards. There’s the rum bar on the beach that has DJs etc. You can get the little ferry from Rock (wo mins away) over to Padstow for the day for some shopping.

Lloki · 19/06/2025 23:17

Thanks for all the recs, I've been a bit indecisive the past few days, but managed to find an okayish chalet near Perran Sands for under £400, however going next week for that price, hopefully will be less busy than mid July even though it would have still been just before summer holidays kicked off!

If you like gardens and greenery then visit the Lost Gardens Of Heligan! I absolutely loved it there and I want to go back for the whole day next time.
