Nervous flyer

I’m flying to Treviso airport and I’m a nervous flyer anyway.
im nervous about this airport as it is so small and I’m worried about using smaller airports as opposed to larger ones. Can anyone advise/help???

Are you nervous about flying or using a smaller airport?
If it's about the smaller airport, what about it makes you nervous?

notimagain · 17/06/2025 16:23

Like @Datsafunnyone I'm also curious as to the concern over airport size..

Ok it's not somewhere like Heathrow or Paris with multiple runways but Treviso is an international airport with a decent length runway, will have Air Traffic Control compliant with international standards and looks to have (never been there myself but looking at documentation) all the navigation related radio aids to aid the crew fly arrivals.and departures..the airport size does not mean it's less safe.

TBH regional airports like this can be a pleasant change from the sausage machine experience you get at some of the major hubs.

I get it, OP. I once flew to the Outer Hebrides and one of the planes was like a Lego
plane.

No proper advice here - I just get drunk before I fly.

notimagain · 17/06/2025 16:46

If it is of any use to the OP Treviso is roughly similar in terms of facilities and traffic (people and also flights per annum) to Leeds Bradford airport in the UK...

Hi1985 · 17/06/2025 16:47

I suppose it may be the size of the plane….will it be a tiny rickety little plane?!?!?

Depends who you are flying with - can you give us a clue..

Since the majority of departures and arrivals today are Ryanair, I highly doubt it.

Hi1985 · 17/06/2025 17:17

It’s Ryanair

@Datsafunnyone had it...

So it will be a proper airliner, not a lego job, and decent size...

Datsafunnyone · 17/06/2025 17:22

Ryanair fly Boeing 737s and lease some A320s

Ask your GP for Diazepam for the journey. Will calm your nerves bit they can be very loathe to prescribe these days.

Treviso Airport is small but easy to navigate, less crowded, and quicker to get through than large airports. It handles many flights smoothly and is well-connected to Venice. Being small actually makes things less overwhelming, which can be helpful for nervous flyers. You'll be fine — just arrive early and stay calm.

If you have your flight number, you can go on Flight Radar 24 and see which planes your airline has used for that journey over the past week or so. I think the smaller planes are only used for short distance so would imagine a 737 or similar.

RareMaker · 17/06/2025 21:12

Im feeling the same :(

Attictroll · 17/06/2025 21:20

Download flight radar and a few times a day look at how many planes there are going in and out…it is quite reassuring.

I take diazepam, one 2 mg tablet one hour before departure. Just takes the edge off things and calms me. I had to access through a private GP this year though as my own GP has stopped prescribing.
