How much spending money?

Lavender14 · 14/06/2025 10:54

Going on holiday soon, just me and 2 yo. We'll be half board and planning to stay close to the hotel which is right on the beach and a promenade. How much spending money do you think I'll need to set aside? Staying for 5 nights.

Where to?

Lavender14 · 14/06/2025 20:28

Sorry going to Spain to a touristy resort

I assume you’ll need to buy one meal each day and drinks, then you might want ice creams and snacks. So maybe 50 Euros a day plus some for the airport and some extra if you want a day out or souvenirs. I’d set aside 400-500 Euros to be on the safe side.

fatgirlswims · 15/06/2025 08:35

€200 drinks snack and lunches
€100 for activities
€50 holiday bits / souveniers
€50 airports

so yes I agree €400 but €200 minimum if on a tight budget

caringcarer · 15/06/2025 09:01

I'd say €500.

KnickerlessFlannel · 15/06/2025 10:07

I'd say 50 euros for midday meal (assuming 2 courses and dessert) and then would add 50 euros for drinks, ice creams and and little purchases through the day. So would plan on 500 bit would have 750 available in case it was more expensive than I thought. Airport food when we went away recently was ridiculous (£20 equivalent for mcdonalds)

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 15/06/2025 10:18

Depends entirely on what you plan to do. I don't tend to eat lunch on holiday so will have a late breakfast and tea so half board would be ideal. I would need money for drinks ice creams and snacks, budget in whatever activities in I wanted and have something for souvenirs and taxis. So £300 minimum plus the cost of activities eg are you factoring in waterpark entry, a trip to the zoo, hiring a boat or just a bus to the local town to wander around?

Cynic17 · 15/06/2025 10:21

This question is pointless because it depends what you want to do, where etc. A meal could cost £20 or £200. You need to do some Googling about your location, and think about your options.

No it isn’t it’s good to get a range of ideas!

think about hidden charges too such at holiday tax and the ridiculous prices of airport food and the fact child might want inflatables and towels etc. the OP can work out where they fit and what’s affordable. I tend not to have a lunch just a big breakfast and tea and maybe a small snack (ice cream or share a sandwich)

LividVermiciousKnid · 15/06/2025 15:33

I'd probably take £500 and hope to bring plenty back (with access to a credit card for dire abroad emergencies. Make sure you have insurance!)

TBH I've done similar on less, you could get away with £300 if necessary but it would be more frugal.

Mancity08 · 15/06/2025 15:48

Presuming you’ll be mostly on the complex or local shops

with child they’ll need plenty ice lollies, drinks
you’ll be buying lunch wether fast food or sandwich
you can make it as cheap as you want, buy supermarket drinks (if fridge in room) and not from hotel
sandwich from shop instead of cafe/hotel

I’d say take €500 and spend as you need too

TeamGeriatric · 15/06/2025 16:54

You can easily buy baguette, crisps and cheese or ham (not necessarily tasting identical to what you get here) and have that for lunch on the beach for < €10/day. We are not on a particularly tight budget but we did this twice in Majorca over half term. On most beach trips, my kids would choose this over spending an hour plus in a restaurant eating lunch and being dragged off the beach. My point is really there and options, you can be economical or splurge. Also does your 1/2 board include drinks, as you may need to budget for that too.

Lavender14 · 15/06/2025 19:26

Thanks all! There are two supermarkets less then 10 minutes walk from the hotel so my plan is to stock up there for lunch and snack stuff, prepare it in the hotel and then bring that with us if we go out for the day/ to the beach etc. I don't forsee us spending much each day and ds is still kind of too little to really be demanding if he wants something so he's easy pleased - I just didn't want to underestimate either! So getting feedback is making me think I was in the right ballpark with estimating £500

Tourist tax is a good point, ours was just over 30 euros for 2 adults 5 days in a 4 star hotel.
