Long haul travel 4 nights

Hi all,

My husband and I impulsively booked a holiday last night to Bangkok for four nights and I’m beginning to get a bit worried that we’re not going for long enough.

Has anyone done such a long haul flight (15hrs) for such a short amount of time?

Holiday is non-refundable so we’ll just have to make it out, but would love for some reassurance!

Day 1 - Manchester to Doha - Doha - Bangkok
Day2 - arrive in Bangkok 6am local time
Day 3 and 4 no travel
Day 5 BKK - Doha - Manchester (one day)

That sounds madness. You're only in Bangkok for 3 actual days.

Given that you can't cancel, is there anyway you can do it but stick roughly to UK hours. So you eat and sleep as if you are in the UK. That would lessen the jet lag but might curtail what you can do.

West is best, East is the beast .
That’s the jet lag rule. I think you can expect to be very jet lagged the first day but hopefully ok after that.
Did a similar journey a year ago but for ten days. The first two days I was very jet lagged but my late teen dds were fine, DH ok after one day but definitely still tired on day 2.

I find the exact opposite. I'm fine travelling out to Asia, no jetlag. It's coming home I feel awful for days after.

Four days. I mistyped the previous message. We fly back on the 6th day.

That's about 3 tonnes of Carbon dioxide, each.

Oh go it's an amazing city. I went last year stayed for 3 days then flew to Cambodia for one night. Back to Bangkok for another day before flying home. Don't regret a minute of it. 😀✈️

I have done new York 5 days 4 nights and also Dubai the same with my husband...crammed so much into a short space of time ....never again, made us both unwell at the time. Good luck'

I had a 13 hour flight and 4 day trip for work this year. Pretty tiring but doable. Barely gives you any time to relax though. I wouldn't see the point of going that far for such a short time.

I've done as little as 4 nights in New York, 5 a few times too. The afternoons are quite difficult. 4 nights in Washington was enough, it was snowing and all the worthwhile sightseeing was near where we stayed.

We did 6 nights in Japan recently and I was quite surprised I was ok for a classical concert one evening.

Many years ago we did a double conference trip. We flew to Melbourne and stayed 4 nights and then on to Seattle via LA transfer to attend a different 3 day conference. Big mistake, I left my digestive health in Australia and my body clock was very out of sync.

Life’s too short to worry about this. Go and have a fabulous time! It’s all about making the most of it while you’re there.
last week I took my niece to Singapore and due to school term dates we arrived on a Sunday and flew home on a Thursday. We got to do everything we wanted and made the most of the 15hr flight by catching up on sleep, face masks, some films and a good book x

So I do this type of travel a lot for work, honestly there will be moments you're beat but in general you'll be fine. However I'd be trying to make sure your first day back in the UK is relatively easy if you can.

But the great news is Bangkok is a brilliant night city so option 1) lie-in, have a lazy morning, keep outside in fresh air and sun where you can in the afternoon but stay up later at night! Grabbing a couple of massages late afternoon/early evening - your hotel can recommend - will also help. Or option 2) if you're finding it too hot in the day switch to an early start in morning getting outside to sight see before too hot, back for siesta and still do the massage and late night.

Basically don't stress about what you "should" do just go with your body clock and have fun

They presumably don't have any kids if they can jet off to Bangkok for 4 nights. So it's fine.

Thank you. The four nights doesn’t include travel (we have a day either side for that). But yes, we saw a good deal and didn’t quite think it through!

Clearly not!

but it's done now & not refundable, so just make the most of it!! Go onto their time as soon as you arrive: make plans now for what you want to see & do, do you're not wasting time once you get there.

do Your best to sleep on the plane (consider sleep pattern fir the days before you go, ask to not be woken for meals take whatever 'aids' you can use (ear plugs, music headband, eye mask)

MumofSpud · 09/06/2025 04:47

I did 3 days in Sydney - but I was 18 so managed! Now I’d be in bed for a week recovering
Have a fab time - Went to Bangkok over New Year and it was a great place!

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 09/06/2025 10:58

Sounds about the right length of time for Bangkok.
I did everything worth doing in 4 days, but unfortunately I was there for 6 !
