Overseas holidays with children?

I have never left Europe and getting older. I have a young teenager. I’m really done with beach/all inclusive holidays snd for the past 6 years have been exploring more cities and rural parts of Europe. I am wanting to go to Asia, Africa or South America. I don’t want to sit in a hotel resort though. I was thinking of Beijing
as can explore city and go to the Great Wall etc but not sure if there would be places to chill out too if that makes sense. Looking for recommendations of good/safe trips overseas with a teenager that isn’t staying at a hotel all day.

Beijing is really interesting, i wouldn’t describe it as a place to chill out though. You can visit the great wall, forbidden palace etc, but its pretty much a big city. Singapore might be interesting for you or Japan

What about South Africa - visit Cape Town and a safari at Kruger. You could fly from Johannesburg to Livingstone and visit Victoria Falls and Chobe National Park.

Vietnam a good place to start for non-European travel, and good with a teenager.

Pretty safe, easy to get around etc.

I’d say that you could go to most of the world and not need to stay in a resort hotel!
What do you like to do? Hiking, museums, cycling, water sports, history, off the beaten track, safari, fast-living big cities?
Budget? What weather do you want? How long do you want to go for?

FWIW, I’ve always planned our holidays yet this year am going on my first package (DS2 finishing GCSEs so a week in Lanzarote is booked). So maybe you can give me some tips!

Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo

Sri Lanka.

You can see wildlife (lots of monkeys and elephants), visit ancient Buddhist temples, take the train through lush countryside, visit tea plantations, climb Adam's Peak and enjoy the gorgeous beaches. The food is delicious and the people are lovely.

I would try a mix, a tour somewhere and then a couple of days to relax at the beach.

AI resorts are more a European idea anyway, most overseas resorts will offer B&B only.

We did the US when DD was 16 but it's not a place I am going back in the next couple of years.
We looked at Thailand (be careful where it's drier in Summer) but DD isn't keen on Asia, friends do Bali this year. Sri Lanka maybe.
Safari with a couple of days Zanzibar may be another option.

I was just thinking of places like Mexico where it’s maybe unsafe to head out and about. I love walking, museums , cities and would love to go on a safari but think that’s out my budget just now.
im not long back from Lanzarote but I’ve spent 40 years doing they holidays and need something different but it’s definitely nice just to rest. We climbed a volcano and went on a boat trip to fuertaventura which was lovely

I'd add Japan to this list! All great options and so much to see and do.
