Looking for suggestions for special holiday destinations for my 50th next summer. We usually go to Majorca, Spain, Italy etc for summer holidays so are looking for somewhere special/different. Would love to go to Talum/Los Cabos in Mexico or Mauritius but seems to be rainy season in both places. Any other suggestions? Want beautiful beaches, clear sea, great food and culture. Will be me, DH, and 3 kids, 18, 16 and 8.

Thailand? Some areas are more dry than others.

Sri Lanka was recommended by a colleague.

Lots of people recommend Costa Rica in Summer. Or a Safari but both are slightly different from clear sea and culture.

We went to St Lucia for a 50th in July and Thailand in July another year. Weather was far better in St Lucia, absolutely gorgeous place. Thailand was great but we did have a lot of rain.

Bali is dry then. Ubud is great for temples and food and you combine with time at a coastal resort. Avoid Kuta!

Zanzibar is at its best in July.

Definitely avoid Mauritius unless you want to look like a drowned rat lol.. We honeymooned there in July many years ago, and had to go and buy jeans and jackets to go over my bikinis and sundresses! I also hadn't taken any closed shoes with me, so had to buy trainers... An expense we Weren't expecting

We went to Mauritius in August last year, for 3 weeks. Had one overcast/drizzly day, and that was it. 27 to 30 degree, blue sky all day. It was lovely.

Sri Lanka
Maldives
Mexico
Cuba

Been to Sri Lanka and Thailand. Most interested in Mexico and Cuba. In fact, Cuba and Miami would be amazing as one is on DH's wish list and the other on DS's. But is the weather good in Mexico and Cuba in July??

Safari in South Africa. European summer is a good time for viewing the animals. Go for a top-end company - expensive, but so worth it.

When I went to Mexico it was May. There were some tropical rain showers in the middle of the day. But they didn't last long and it dried up quickly. Don't know about July though.

Haven't been to Cuba, but would love to. Its a good idea to combine with Miami as you then get a city and a beach stay.

Cuba is on the the terrorist list for the USA so you’ll struggle to combine the two.

Vietnam is another place to consider.

Zanzibar looks great but such a long flight! St Lucia also and been wanting to go for ages. My only niggle is that these are really winter destinations and I hate taking a long flight when there are so many stunning places in Europe.

Can anyone recommend somewhere really stunning in Greece or Italy? Can be hotel or villa.

I went to Mexico one mid/late July and it was hot and dry.

I went to Niagara Falls for a week in July for my 50th, was fantastic

I've spent a fair amount of time in Mexico, including Yucatán, Quintana Roo, and Campeche in July. They will be hot, but not unbearably so, especially if you're close to the ocean. Cancún has a bad reputation, but undeservedly I think - it's a good (and cheap) place to fly into from Europe and has great transportation links. I would not stay there too long - NOT because it's awful but just because there are so many more interesting places to visit in the vicinity or move on to. I would happily go to Mexico City at any time (and I recommend going; it's brilliant); I'd just consider how to pair it with a Mexican beach holiday if I wanted one.

If it's important to you to be close to the beach/ocean - you want to swim or do water sports - be aware that every year there is more and more sargasso accumulating on Caribbean beaches in warm weather, including Mexico's Caribbean coast. It doesn't automatically mean don't go, but if swimming in the ocean and/or walking/lounging on the beach are an important part of your holiday, you may not love the experience in July (you may find the coasts clear and swimmable one day, and completely clogged with seaweed the next) and summer may not be the best time.

There are bunch of online trackers, like: https://www.caricoos.org/sargassum or https://sargassummonitoring.com/en/.
