Hi

we have booked a holiday for us and our 6 month old. The hotel does have a baby sitting service which we can do a couple of evenings. But the evenings which we dont have baby sitting. Is it normal to take the baby out in thier pram to sleep or just order room service and stay in the room?

sorry might be a basic a question but it’s our first baby so will be first holiday as parents

i know every child will be different but what do you guys do?

That’s what reclining buggies are for, never used a sitter once, just keep baby with you

Yeah fine to take a buggy and sleeping baby out! Only if they aren’t disturbing other diners but I think fine! We’ve done it…

Agree, no babysitters, not a chance I’d leave my child with a total stranger. Just go out and your baby will nod off in a sling or buggy. There is little point in trying to enforce home bedtime routines on holidays.

Make sure to minimise sun exposure/keep out of direct sunlight if you take them out - even in the evening. A 6 month old should only be limited to 30-60 mins in the sun at any one time. Their skin is far more sensitive and prone to sunburn and heat exhaustion than older children.

I hope those on here who avoid babysitter services don’t keep their kids out in the sun for hours. People who work for these services have been PVG checked OP, do not let scaremongers on here stop you from using this service.

We’ve just come back from a holiday with a 6 month old and there’s no way I’d have used a sitter.

We had a villa so it’s slightly different but we took her out for a couple of meals in the pram pre-bedtime but otherwise ate in our accommodation as it was less stressful that way.

I took ours out in the buggy and they’d fall asleep in that.

I don’t think DS would have gone in the buggy and I don’t think I could have left him with someone I didn’t know. At almost 3 we’ve been to Europe several times and we tend to go for dinner at 7 (6 here so normal time for DS) all eat together then back to the hotel room bath and bed. Realistically DS gets to bed at 9 and we get a couple of hrs on the balcony having a drink before bed. Works well for us.

The sun sets earlier the further south you go, it’s not full on sunshine all evening. Last year in Crete in August sunset was 7:30pm.

I always took mine out in the buggy for dinner. They would eat, enjoy the atmosphere for a while and then fall asleep. I'd imagine that you're more likely to be disturbed by the sitter contacting you to say the baby won't settle/has woken up than you are by having them with you at dinner. Mine would have an early evening nap on hols and then be fine to go out for dinner.

I take my baby in the pram. I see lots of people do it.

I wouldn't feel comfortable using a random sitter at all sorry.

I have a 6 month old and going out in the evening, he'd be covered by his pram and sun shield thing.

Even if i didn't like the fact the stranger was a sitter, my baby would be totally aware i'd left him with a stranger in a strange place. Absolutely not for me.
