Getting a babysitter in USA - good idea?

Any tips or experiences of finding a babysitter in the US? We're off to a wedding near Boston with 2 kids (aged 1 1/2 and 4) and need to find someone to look after them whilst we're at the evening reception. Feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing, so advice much needed!

Ask the people who live there for a recommendation. Mananny might know of someone.

I keep hearing adverts for this on the radio here in the US, although have no experience of them myself:

Ask the people whose wedding it is. At least you are not going with a complete stranger that way.

thank you - we've got a friend of a friend of the friends who are getting married that has offered to babysit, but i can't decide if that's reliable or not.

i think we may well just have to wait until we get out there ...

If you go to the Boston forum on trip advisor someone local is bound to be able to come up with a registered baby sitter for. That's how friends have found sitters before for LA and San Fran

Why don't you ask on the US thread (in Living Overseas section). I think there are some mumsnetters in that area who might be able to give recommendations, you never know! I'd offer to help but I am a bit further south in DC. I went to Boston last year and it is fantastic. You will have a great time!
