Porta Pollensa worked for us when kids were little.

wallowingbrook · 23/05/2025 15:16

Puerto Pollensa is perfect for families

MoreChocPls · 23/05/2025 15:16

What about somewhere other than Spain given the protests by the locals?

middleagedandinarage · 23/05/2025 15:28

Sa Coma/Cala Bona are lovely

Puerto Pollensa. It's a lovely resort, all families or couples. Everything closes at 12. So no drunk yobs shouting and screaming in the streets. We've been three times. Half of the main bay - the Pine Walk is pedestrianized. The town square has some good restaurants as does the main bay. There's a good cafe right in the centre of the bay called Gran Cafe 1919. They have push buttons on the table to ring for service. It's really easy to get the bus or a taxi to Pollensa Alcudia and C'an Picafort. There's a marina in the centre of the bay. You can book boat trips there.

Puerto Portals is also wonderful and very upmarket.

I was there last summer when they were apparently protesting, didn’t see a thing. And every business was more than happy to take our money.

The main touristy areas like Sa Coma etc are barely affected. They are very welcoming, they know the livelihoods of many people depend on people going and re visiting.

If it is long, fine soft sandy beaches you are after then Alcudia is great. Easy bathing too, and shallow/sandy under foot some way out. Plenty of shops and amusements around too.

Puerto Pollensa is also very nice, as is C'an Picafort (also on the Bay of Alcudia, which is very long).

We were there last year and never saw any protests. Going again next month and I can't wait!

Not going to Spain because of protests by the locals is like not going to London because Britain First or the farmers have held a demo. The protests are 99% against the government, about housing costs, and not one person has been arrested at them. The UK media coverage overstates the reality of the protests by a factor of about 10,000.

Yes, people (four in total, I believe) got squirted with water pistols in Barcelona (in one incident, last year). But on the same day, 20 tourists had their purse/wallet stolen, thus ruining their holiday, because 20 tourists have their purse stolen in Barcelona every single day. But nobody wrote about that in the tabloids because it doesn't get clicks, and nobody is cancelling their holiday because they might have their purse stolen, even though it is several hundred times more likely to happen than getting squirted with a few drops of cold water on a hot day.

Puerto Pollensa is nice. So are Puerto Soller and Portocolom (which is the least touristy of the three).

If your budget is tight, look at the all-inclusive places in Calas de Mallorca, which is a bit cheaper because it's not a very "quaint" town, but the beaches are good and the hotels are well reviewed.

Flicitytricity · 23/05/2025 18:39

I'm just back from Cala Millor ( no children though).
Very laid back resort, very family friendly - met more toddlers and babies on a week than I've met in the past two years 😁
Easy pushchair/ pram walks into Cala Bona/ Sa Coma.
Loads of families on the beach, really family orientated 😁

Funf · 23/05/2025 19:13

Sacoma, Calla Millor, Calabona all nice

Oh god that’s reminded me of our worst family holiday ever in Callas de Majorca 🤦‍♀️😂 it was a long time ago before the days of trip advisor and the dc got food poisoning but I’ve found the hotel and it’s still going (and has the worst reviews in the resort). OP, do not go to the Club Cala Romani!

Last year we visited Majorca, Seville and Granada - no sign of any protests

OP, do not go to the Club Cala Romani!

OMG. I just looked it up and it seems as if <reader discretion advised> the sunbeds don't have adjustable backs — they only lie flat. It's worse than North Korea! 😂

TheFairyCaravan · 23/05/2025 23:19

Cala D’Or is brilliant for families.

MrSofty57 · 24/05/2025 21:16

Just back from Puerto Pollensa. Took daughter there many years ago and now grandson. It’s a beautiful resort and very family friendly.

Sorry to jump on OP, those saying Puerto Pollensa, any hotel/resort recommendations?

I just read the Trip Advisor reviews for Cala Romani (horrendous) and was equally horrified to see that TUI and Jet2 are both sending guests there!
