School Summer holidays. Do you have a trip planned?

I would love to share in your excitement. Have you got something planned this year? I thought it would give people ideas for the following year too.
So where are you taking the kids? Why? And if you like, how much is it costing (to help others)?

We are taking the train to Switzerland via Germany, and back via Italy and France, because I love train travel. It has been on the bucket list for years.

In June DH and I are going on the train to France - southern French alps - for a few days. Eurostar and overnight couchettes both ways for just over £300.

Later on we are going to Turkey with the kids.

I did that a couple of years ago! I went walking around Grasse. (Don't know that I'd recommend Grasse particularly, but I chose it because it had a station and was at the intersection of a couple of GR paths).

With an Interrail pass (15% off in the sale) it cost me £280- it's funny how close the price is to buying tickets separately! But for me it's usually worthwhile buying the pass because I live in Cornwall and it covers the train from there to London. I was also smug when I compared the cost of flying from the nearest airport, which was slightly more 😉

Another train holiday here! Eurostar to Paris, TGV to Stuttgart then sleeper to Ljubljana. Spending a week in Slovenia, hiring a car then driving down through Croatia. Taking sleeper back from Zagreb - Stuttgart then back to Paris. Me, DH and the 2 DC. Can't wait.

Last year we did Brussels - Cologne - Vienna - Bratislava - Prague - Brussels and it was fabulous. Not an especially cheap holiday though!

We are flying to New York and taking the train to Albany , then niagara falls and finally Toronto . Doing 3 nights in each before flying home from Toronto

longest train is Albany to niagara at six hours but views should be amazing

We’re going to Canada. Husband’s brother lives there with his partner. We haven’t been yet so thought it’s time! We’re staying in Vancouver for a week, then with my BIL who lives just outside Vancouver then another week in the Whistler area. Really looking forward to it!

Oh and I’m not sure how to edit my post but we’re going with our five year old (she’ll be 6 by then). She’s been to New York as a two year old and still talks about it to this day (and didn’t amazingly well on the plane) so 🤞😂

If your DC are old enough, I highly recommend the walk over the roof of the old Munich Olympic stadium then the zip line down OP.

I’m jealous of the sleeper train trips. The timing of the sleeper to Salzburg doesn’t work for us unfortunately.

We are having 2 weeks in a villa in Camp de Mar, Majorca. Pure relaxation. DS has a big list of books he wants to take.
Just booked for next summer and very excited - we’re going to Singapore, Elephant Hills and Ko Samui.

I'm very tempted by a train holiday next year, after DC finishes their exams. Will be following for ideas!

We’re doing our usual week in Devon during the last week of term, then a week on mainland Greece during last week of the hols. Using some of my redundancy money for a really luxurious week of doing nothing.

It’ll be back to last minute deals next year!

The Durance Valley. Train towards Briancon, but staying near Lac de Serre Poncon. It’s a fabulous area!

By the way that’s the price for 2 people! 😎
