Paris restaurant recommendations for teens who are not very adventurous eaters

Kilpitlees · 18/05/2025 12:19

Bit of a parenting fail, but I have two older teens who are not exactly gastronomes. We are heading to Paris for 5 days over the summer, so I am looking for restaurant recommendations for those with a less adventurous palate.
I will try and up my parenting game but persuading the boys out of trainers may also be a hard task, so recommendations for casual eating places would also be appreciated.
Food markets like Time Out in Brooklyn were a hit due to the pick and mix options.
Hoping someone can help. Thank you

Chartier , extremely basic and cheap.

We love Cafe Breizh for galettes and crepes. There are several branches.

cheezncrackers · 18/05/2025 13:12

Any Parisian bistro will do simple meals like steak frites (steak and chips), steak hache (hamburger meat and chips), omelette nature/au jambon/au fromage (plain omelette, with ham/cheese), croque monsieur (ham and cheese on toast), hamburgers, salade verte (green salad), etc. There are pizzerias liberally dotted around Paris too and most children will eat pizza of some description.

Tinseltuttifruitti · 18/05/2025 13:14

Many bistros will have plain things like steak frites or omelettes. The new food court under Châtelet les Halles has teen-friendly french fast food-type things.

Everyone wears trainers in Paris so as long as they're clean and new don't worry on that front !

Forgottenmyphone · 18/05/2025 13:58

La Felicita is an Italian food court and it’s quite instagrammable!

Kilpitlees · 18/05/2025 14:16

Fabulous I will check these suggestions out. Feeling slightly more relived that we will not be food heathens and that trainers seem to be ok. We are not the chicest of families 😂

Lots of little restaurants in Plas de la Contrescarpe which is just behind the Pantheon ( or at the end of Rue Moufetard if you come at it from the other side). Really nice little square to sit in. Teen had steak frites a lot and there's a great pizza place but there's also Le Volcan for trad french bistro. Rue Moufetard also is very pleasant for a stroll at night andplenty of non- threatening choice Great for my limited eating teen.

Paris is full of Bistros selling simple dishes that will suit their palate

Chartier , extremely basic and cheap.

Great restaurant but the menu is small so they’ll definitely love the half chicken and chips, not so much anything else on the menu

doonaduvet · 25/05/2025 12:28

My children loved the fondue and souffle restaurants, the lovely souffle restaurant was near the Louvre.

Oriunda · 25/05/2025 12:29

La Felicita is awesome. A little off beaten track, but it's a very, very trendy foot court with multiple food stations. Pizza, burgers, pannini, pasta etc. The most Instagrammable loos.

Key thing is securing a table; one person gives their food order to the others and sits at the table. I once spent a stressful 10 mins chasing my husband and son round it, trying to catch up with them.

Otherwise, Bouillon Pigalle is excellent. Lots of food options including steak frites, sausage etc. Reasonably priced and can be booked (essential). V handy for Montmartre.

I also have a go to place on the pricey Ile St Louis, La Sarrasine. Small but super reasonable. Formule €15.50 for 3 courses. There's usually steak frites, lasagne etc. Plus loads of crêpes.

Yes, this is one of my Paris defaults with a 13 year old with a very restricted palette, plus we’re all vegetarians, which, while it’s no longer the incredibly weird dilemma for a French people thst it was 30 years ago, still restricts things.

My other default with DS is one of the long-standing falafel restaurants in the Marais. We go to Chez Hannah on Rue des Rosiers, but there are others.

Oriunda · 25/05/2025 12:35

Chartier is fun, but of course you can't book (queueing is part of the fun). The menu is smaller; I'd check online if you can to see what's on it.

As other posters have said, most bistro food will have variants of steak frites, burgers etc.

For teens specifically, I recommend the burger place inside the Centrium mall (just behind Printemps). The mall is teen central, and the burger joint is 50s style (more fast food vibe).

There are also 2 branches of Breakfast in America for awesome brunch/lunch. One in the Marais, and one near the Sorbonne. Book if possible, especially if going to Sorbonne brand during the week. My ado loves it there.

TrolleySong · 25/05/2025 12:40

Yes, La Felicità is a bit of a trek, it must be said! In an old train depot behind the Gare d’Austerlitz, with which I assume the space must have had some connection.

ShakespearesSisters · 25/05/2025 12:48

We are off for to Paris for a few days in the summer with a fussy teen. Keeping an eye on this thread.

AdaColeman · 25/05/2025 13:29

The summer restaurant at the top of Galeries Lafayette is open now. It's vegetarian, with mainly salads, pizza, and flatbread with dips, so should work for teenagers. It serves breakfast from 10 am.
Plus of course the spectacular view across Paris.

NegroniMacaroni · 25/05/2025 13:53

I've heard good things about Les Grands Buffets looks pretty bonkers / fun (buffet style)

Don't worry about "persuading the boys out of trainers" or looking for "casual" places. I don't think any restaurant in Paris, outside perhaps of the Ritz-level hotels, has a dress code of any kind.

Also, Paris is big. I really wouldn't worry too much about specific recommendations that might require 40 minutes on the Métro to trek to from where you are. Just walk around and read the menus, which are always posted outside, and let DC find something they are prepared to eat. Any bar will do you a ham and cheese sandwich in a pinch, and the French love "McDo", it's everywhere.

This ! Steak frites will satisfy most teens and there's just plenty of brasserie that will serve this. It really all depends on where you are staying visiting to give more detailed recommendations

Oriunda · 25/05/2025 14:51

Paris is actually very small, compared to, say London. The metro is very fast, and we regularly travel to a specific restaurant rather than mooch around hunting.

Op, do your teens like Asian food? Belleville is the Chinese area, and there are some great restaurants there, plus a super cool pair of streets famous for graffiti.

Korean restaurants abound near the central area around Opera; my son loves a lunch there.

Look out for the lunchtime formule wherever you go; great value. Plus, the best thing about France: Le café gourmand (coffee or tea with a mini selection of puddings).

Kilpitlees · 25/05/2025 16:41

Wow, thank you all so much. I am now planning a great evening of a glass of wine and researching your recommendations. I am now so excited, and feeling much more relaxed that I will not have to negotiate with my lovely but fussy teens!

@Whyherewego We are staying in the 9th Arrondissement if you know of any local gems.

The 9th is a great area. Bouillon Pigalle is at the top end (towards Montmartre). The Grands Boulevards are just teaming with life and restaurants; do check out the Passage Panorama - full of bars and restaurants. Opposite is the Passage Joufroy; full of wonderful shops.

Check out Bouillon Julien.... the beautiful, belle epoque decor is stunning. As it's a Bouillon, prices are reasonable for the most beautiful setting. Again, you can book.

Pizza Populare is in this zone; great restaurant for Italian food ... part of the Pink Mamma chain which also includes La Felicità. You'd need to book.

I think your teens would go crazy for Pink Mamma restaurant itself. Absolutely need to book this one. Italian food.

Rue Cadet is one of my favourite quirky roads in this area.

Whyherewego · 25/05/2025 18:47

good recommendations above also I like l'office on rue richer but check the menu first ! I think we went to Chez Yvette too when my DC wanted something basic!

Kilpitlees · 25/05/2025 19:59

Thank you @Whyherewego and @Oriunda your recommendations are much appreciated and I am excited to check them out.
