Toddlers (friends) sharing a room on holiday: will they sleep?!!

We’re going away with friends and would like our two children to share a room 2yo and 3yo. Both will be in travel cribs… Neither have shared a room before and neither have siblings. Will they both sleep?!! Any tips?

If they are in daycare they could well be used to taking naps together.
If they are tired I imagine they might well fall asleep promptly.

If not, put the deepest sleeper to bed first and the second as soon as the first is snoring away.

Start one off in your bed and then carry that child through to the shared room when you go to bed.

We Have young DCs and don’t share rooms with friends when we go away yet. We tried once and it didn’t work, so now we book laces big enough that they don’t share. They will when older.

My 6 year old shared with our friends 3 year old for a couple of nights recently on holiday. Unfortunately neither of them slept. If at all possible I would try and come up with an alternative.

My own DC1 and 2 are 7 and 3.5 and even getting them to share a room is still, er, challenging shall we say. We often don't really have any other option as wouldn't be able to afford to stay places where they had their own room each. 'Holidays' are an utterly knackered affair though as they sleep much worse than usual (and therefore so do we).

No

GoldLash · 18/05/2025 21:56

They’ll be exhausted at the end of the day so I’ll say yes

ACynicalDad · 18/05/2025 21:57

First night probably not, but within a couple of nights they'll be progressively better.

RedToothBrush · 18/05/2025 21:59

Yes they will.

Eventually.

minipie · 18/05/2025 22:44

Ummm depends how good sleepers they are really

If they are “sleep through a bomb” types it will probably be fine.

They will both wake up
With the earliest riser

Is there space for any kind of reconfiguration if it goes wrong? I wouldn't expect the first night to be great as they'll be excited. But after that they should be tired and it'll improve. If it doesn't, though, you might want to have a plan B.
