Newly single - where to holiday with teens?

my husband left me and I’m all shades of anxious BUT I want to give my teenage girls (17 & 19) and I a nice holiday treat. Somewhere in Europe where I don’t need a car. Somewhere near the beach, maybe a walk to restaurants with excursions? I’m so in freeze mode I’m finding this so hard.

A Greek or Croatian island with a nice harbour where you can both chill out together and do slightly different things. Little islands tend to be really safe, you won’t need a car. Sunvil is good for Greece…

Nerja is very nice relaxed but also has some low key night life. Very quick transfer from Malaga/

cala galadana with a taxi from airport. You can use taxis or buses to visit other places but you will get beach and a handful of restaurants/bars/shops all pretty busy each evening?

What about an all inclusive resort? Did this alone with my two at a similar time and it was blissful, they did sports/activities they fancied I rested and got much needed head space. No worries re how much things would cost or other hassle that you can do without. We did Ikos but out of the main season when it's less spendy. People recommend loads of different all inclusive though.

wibblewibble · 14/05/2025 19:38

Sorry when I said no worries re coat I meant no hidden/unexpected costs as food/drinks/activities was included

Admittedly haven't been for a long time, but Puerto Pollenca in Majorca might work for you. It's in the north of the island, but it's not too long to transfer from the airport. It's a pretty seaside town with beach, marina, restaurants etc. You can fairly easily visit Palma for a day, and very easily go to Pollenca town which is slightly inland to visit the market and convent (I think), and have coffee in the square.

Majorca, maybe Palma? Close, easy and safe x

FionaJT · 14/05/2025 19:41

I've had a couple of lovely holidays on Skiathos with my teenage Dd, plenty to do but still feels very chilled, easy to get around by bus. Seemed to be lots of parents with teenage/young adult children holidaying there.

I did Palma with my teen girl last year, Palma city is nice for shopping and eating, beaches are nice, water park etc. what’s your budget? X

piscofrisco · 14/05/2025 20:05

Croatia, Hvar Island specifically
Or If you can stretch to it Italy-anywhere on the Amalfi cost. Both huge hits with my two teen DD’s.

reluctantbrit · 14/05/2025 21:14

DD hated AI resorts at that age, too boring. Too many small children and too "uncool" for dinner.

We moved to city breaks with a relaxing (beach) stay afterwards.

Majorca is another idea, Palma is a great city to spend time in, but there is plenty to do and it's easy to get around by public transport.

This year we are doing Cascais in Portugal for one week, town, hotel with B&B and Lisbon just 1/2 hour train ride away

It would help a bit if you could say how long for, what month, and what your budget (flights and accommodation/meals) is. 🙏

School summer holidays, probably about £3k max, and for 5-7 days.

Majorca might be pushing it a bit budget-wise in high season, but look at all-inclusive in Cales de Mallorca or not all-inclusive in Sa Coma. Neither are the prettiest towns for "authentic Spanish living" but there are great beaches and they are a bit cheaper than the posher resorts like Puerto Pollensa or Puerto Soller. There are the traditional excursions by coach to attractions, or you can get the bus up and down the coast quite cheaply.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 15/05/2025 13:40

I’d go Malaga, Valencia, Palma or Sicily depending on flight availability from your nearest airport
