Mauritius hotels with 5yo please?

Looking for specific hotel recommendations for Mauritius, with 5yo. We are planning to go next October half term and we have 10 days available.

I have exhausted myself scrolling the internet and would like a bit of help! Lucky to have such a choice to even think about I know.

Which area and hotel would be best? DC loves swimming, fish, animals and exploring. I'm not sure how much to budget but we can't go extreme top end prices. I have quite a few Avios points though.

And do I take it AI is best, or would half board be ok, or not worth it?

Thanks!

I am Mauritian and we love children. It is very very family orientated. There are some lovely hotels so you really do have a world of choice at your finger tips. Go North Island and choose whichever hotel you think suits you best.
Weather tends to be more consistent and better in the North though. Grand Baie is the big tourist area, but Perybere is very lovely. Depending on the time of year you could get rain... and take light weight wraps etc for evening in case you need it.
Some hotels cater more for French guests than UK guests, so a trip/call to a travel advisor to help you choose may be easiest. Otherwise it is down to budget. With tiddlers I would go AI. The Island is generally extremely accessible for kids, but food can be a bit limited to chicken and chips in restaurants geared up to Europeans so at least with AI you can try lots of different things. The beaches are all open to the public. It is one of the lovely things about the Island, but you can get hawkers. The hotels are quite good at making sure you don't get persistently bugged. However, if that is likely to put you off then I would suggest choosing the hotel with the best pools. Some beaches are also quite rocky (it is a volcanic Island).

Street food is amazing and definitely go out on some trips.

Sorry I realise I haven't provided you with specific suggestions, but I would focus on TripAdvisor reviews and budget first. And take it from there. Most hotels are of a standard unless you want to go self catering. And a good travel agent is well worth talking it through with.

I took mine to La Pirogue when my oldest was 5 , that was lovely we had a beach front room and the children’s club activities were excellent . The hotel next door is also lovely I think that’s called Sugar Beach?

it’s lovely , have a super time

( edited to add we did half board )

We went to Sugar Beach which was excellent and next to La Pirogue, also went to Long Beach, lovely. Did AI at them all but half board can be cheaper overall, depends how much you eat / drink and when.

La Pirogue or Sugar Beach .

Close to Casela animal park.

You could also do an excursion to La Vanille crocodile park (it has other animals too)

We’re going to two beachcomber resorts this summer (Trou aux biches and Paradis) which are the higher end of pricing. We had originally booked Shandrani too (which I would definitely recommend) but it is closed for refurbishment so we had those nights switched. Beachcomber also have Victoria which we stayed at years ago and was lovely. A friend has booked Ravenala attitude which was very reasonable for all inclusive.

The Mauritius we love it Facebook page is really helpful and has a great travel agent we used (very useful if you’re booking flights with avios).

Also if you are using avios you need to be on it with booking the flights, we managed to get 4 seats in club but it took a lot of planning and a stressful 1am call to the US call centre.

We went to the Ravenala with our 6 year old a couple of years ago and it was stunning. We booked the January before when British Airways have their sale.

If you can afford the residence then go there. Only hotel I have ever been to three times because it is THAT good.

My family is in Mauritius and they always recommend Beachcomber for families. There's one in Grand Baie, which is a fairly busy resort with plenty of amenities

Beachcomber Canonnier
Lux Belle Mare
Long Beach

Been to these three with kids and would
recommend all of them. We went to Beachcomber with a 3 and 5 year old and they loved the kids club.

I like the look of the Attitude resorts too
