Paris - advice on where to stay with car/3 teenagers?!

Hi all,

We are going on holiday in August in the South of France and planning to drive there and back from the UK, which we've done a few times before.

Normally we break the long journey by staying overnight near Troyes at a basic motorway/premier inn type hotel which is very easy. This year we might try to see a friend in Paris on the way back and stay there for a night - however, I'm aware this won't be particularly easy (or cheap!) with the car and accommodation for five of us.

Can anyone recommend where might be a good option for us to stay? Either a hotel in Paris that has parking, or somewhere that might be on the outskirts and easy to get a bus/metro in?

An added complication is that DH and I ideally need to visit our friend who lives in central Paris alone (they are recently widowed) while the kids do their own thing for a few hours. They are 18, 16 and 14 so it shouldn't be a problem, but equally wouldn't want to be based anywhere that's too edgy or tricky to navigate!

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

this has parking, is really easy to navigate into the centre of Paris, has a climbing centre just next to it that you can leave the kids in for a few hours if you want to!

I’d stay in one of the hotels close to Versailles train station. You can get into the centre of Paris from there by train in less than 30mins. The dc can be left to explore the palace grounds - there’s loads to do: boat hire, bike hire, musical fountains, horse performance etc…

Paris has recently implemented various ULEZ and traffic restrictions.

Would be worth investigating what applies to you.

You will need the emissions sticker. You can buy this cheaply on line. Just make sure you use their government website not an intermediate reseller charging well over the odds

Very useful suggestions everyone - thank you so much.

@PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister - had a quick look and something along these lines looks ideal. That site only seems to offer non refundable stays though but I will sniff around on booking.com etc.

@Forgottenmyphone -the Versailles idea is great! My DH has never been so that could be really interesting...

@LostMySocks - thanks. Yes we'd try to avoid driving into central Paris if possible, it's a nightmare!

We stayed at the Kyriad Torcy absolutely years ago but it was a great price, next to a shopping centre and a railway station so ideal for getting into the centre of Paris. Big buffet breakfast that the kids enjoyed too. I have no idea if it’s still good but we drove there and parked. Worth a look on trip advisor to see if it’s still good.

we stayed in Huttopia Versailles a couple of years ago, easy to get to Paris, great to be able to see the palace, lots of restaurants etc in the town

this might be too far out but it’s a short walk down the hill to the train station - you then need another train into paris

its a very upmarket area and ample parking, very good facilities and a bakery a short walk. The village/town has a few shops and supermarket

they have two apartments

i stayed in one for two nights and it was easy to drive to from the south,

We stayed at val d’europe good transport links to the centre. Loads of hotels as near Disney, free parking

I stayed there to visit Versailles, which was indeed very interesting- though incredibly busy
