How to pack for Ryan Air cabin bag!

3 night city break next week in Paris. Only got that super small Ryanair baggage allowance. How can I pack???

We’re mainly walking about sightseeing so I’m thinking one pair trainers, the trousers I fly in plus one more, couple of t shirts and a hoodie? Will wear some sort of jacket on the plane. Would love to take a dress but it would get creased to hell, unless someone can suggest one to buy that won’t crease? Maybe shorts if there is room? Don’t want to look a mess in Paris!

Seasoned travellers please help! Also if anyone can suggest decent non crease travel wear I would be pleased to hear it as have further city breaks lined up.

I’ve just done 4 days in Amsterdam and took 2x pairs loose cotton trousers , 1 x worn on plane , 2x thin cotton t shirts , 1 x long sleeved cotton top , 1 x thin dress for evening , a cardigan worn on flight , 2 x knickers ( washed in Airbnb ) 1 x trainers . Sachet washing powder , 1 x travel Molton brown for hair and body. It helped that it was hot so didn’t have to pack bulky jumpers / jeans .

Thanks. That all fitted in the small bag? Was it creased to hell!? Do I need packing cubes?

Do you mean you only have a backpack / bag that fits y fee the seat ?

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 08/05/2025 09:59

I've got a featherweight crinkle skirt from M&S , & some similar tops from Amazon.
No need for travelwash, shampoo does the job.

To be fair the dress faired worse but it was all rolled really tightly so not folded .

Imtoooldforallthis · 08/05/2025 10:05

Roll your dresses, it helps stop the creases

MiddleAgedDread · 08/05/2025 10:14

Wear your hoodie and jacket on the plane, even if you have to carry the jacket around the airport!
If you're taking a pair of shoes other than the ones you travel in then stuff them with underwear and things like phone charger cables.

Great tips. Thanks.

In my experience rolling doesn’t reduce creases but it does increase capacity. I did 5 days in Paris recently with a small bag. I took 1 pair smartish trousers, travelled in jeans, shirt , hoodie and a jacket ( yes felt warm and bulky but you can take it off on the plane. Two t shirts , 1 light jumper and a smart top.

It’s helpful to think about fabrics - what do you have that doesn’t crease and/or washes and dries quickly. I wore “exercise” type t shirts because they are virtually indestructible.

Paris is prone to showers so think about that too

Oh and doesn’t worry about being smart for Paris. It’s no different than London - people wear all sorts!

latetothefisting · 08/05/2025 10:54

Bear in mind that if you want to take a handbag as well for daily use you'll have to fit that in the luggage bag - they won't let you take 2 bags on board (although I snuck a little crossbody one by wearing it under my jacket).

Tbh I just took a large rucksack for 5 days in Oslo in winter and managed to get loads of stuff in. Rucksacks usually have more give than the rigid cabin cases. Take anything extra out you can and stick it in jacket pockets/carry a water bottle/put sunglasses or hat on your head etc. Wear as many layers as possible (e.g. a jumoer and jacket over your normal outfit- it only needs to be for the short time going through boarding then you can take them off.

Agree rolling better than folding but check if the hotel has an ironing board if youre worried about creases -

also if hotel provides toiletries minimise what you take with you -if its only 3 nights will you wash your hair more than once? Maybe take a conditining mask/sachets rather than a bottle etc. I've asked for samples of foundation at make uo counters/decanted my main one into teeny tiny bottles that are enough for 3 days so I don't need to take my big expensive bottle.

I also have the small 3ml roll on perfumes that i take whenever I'm out and about.

Every little helps!

The Ryan air bags are ridiculous. I’d pay extra for the normal sized cabin bag tbh.

MiddleAgedDread · 08/05/2025 10:59

also make sure you have a bag that maximises the size limit. there's some rucksacks that a rectangular and the full RyanAir size. I got mine for about £15 on amazon and it's been great. Not stylish but nearly everyone on the flight had one!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 08/05/2025 11:00

You’ve suggested you may take shorts - I don’t think I would wear shorts in somewhere like Paris. If you are expecting it to be hot I would suggest very light cropped trousers and a T shirt dress.

A dress and cropped trousers? A fashion crime in Paris of all places!!?

I would pack fairly tight fitting dresses - your body will get rid of any creases!

I didn’t mean to be worn together !!

Seymourscat · 08/05/2025 11:22

I definitely won’t be wearing tight dresses tbh!

Jersey dresses from Boden are great for spring weather non creasing packing. The long sleeve you can wear with woolen tights if cold, alone if warm.

I always just upgrade and pay for extra handluggage on Ryanair. I figure it’s still cheaper than the same flight with a more expensive airline, so if Ryanair times better and to airport I need for closeness I just choose and pay the extra. Then small hand case above head and small rucksack to have travelling a round daily

Packing cubes are great but get the ones that compress. Otherwise you’re just putting stuff neatly in separate bags!

I’ve got the Aerolite Mini Max which is 45 x 36 x 20 so suitable for EasyJet under seat, not sure if Ryanair is the same. I’ve done a week with it before with the aid of compression packing cubes and only taking essential preferred toiletries which I decanted into little travel pot/bottles (moisturiser, shampoo and conditioner) and bought shower gel/toothpaste once arrived.

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 08/05/2025 11:28

Roll the clothes up. Wear trousers and jacket in flight. Pack spare trousers, roll up some linen shift dresses

Ryanair is much smaller than Easyjet - 40 x 20 x 25cm!

olderbutwiser · 08/05/2025 14:24

Outfit-plan. Minimise shoes. Wear as much as you can on the flight. I love packing cubes just for organisation - agree get the compression ones, and there is no law that says you have to use all the bags provided on every trip. Honestly, for 3 days it will be a doddle, you'll have space to buy something beautiful and bring it home.

Edited to add - check the weather carefully before you pack!

usernametaken22 · 08/05/2025 14:28

Get a bottle of this from The Range, 100ml is fine to take on board with you. Hang your clothes up on arrival and give them a spray with this, the creases will drop out over night.

@Seymourscat We’ve just been with Eurostar. Take what luggage you want! Arrive in central Paris. Soooo much better.
