Holiday for mums 60th

Quick background - my mum does a huge amount for us and, due to looking after a disabled family member, gets very little time to herself/opportunity to go on a foreign holiday for about 30 years! For her 60th (couple of years away), I’m thinking of arranging a uk group holiday (maybe a nice air bnb) with the grandkids and my sister but I’d also like to take her away (just me and her) for a few days (4 or 5 nights) somewhere nice and sunny.

I’ve started looking although it isn’t until 2027 (so won’t be able to book until next year) just for some ideas and an idea of price ranges so I know how much to save, as we’re on an okay income but not hugely wealthy. I’m struggling to find what I’m after online so was hoping mumsnet might have some recommendations!!

here’s what I’m after:

  • budget of about £1000 per person for flights and hotel, or £1400ish pp all in. (£2800). Could potentially stretch budget for the right place. Ideally budget would stretch to two separate rooms or a large suite with decent separate beds.
  • thinking may/june 2027. Not bound by school holiday dates.
  • somewhere close to a quietish beach, maybe in a picturesque little town where we can walk to get coffees and lunches, maybe a Greek island or Balearics?
  • prefer the hotel to be on the smaller side and well located (not after huge Brits abroad type resort)
  • somewhere easy to get to and do some local walks/sightseeing that doesnt require car hire
  • flights not longer than 5 hours
  • my mum has some health issues so I’m thinking easy ambles around towns, not big hikes or hills

she has a very stressful life so thinking something low stress, nice scenery, not too busy/touristy

has anyone got any area or (even better!) hotel recommendations? Where have you been that you’ve loved?

Madeira - yes it's hilly overall but main areas are very well pedestrianised and easy to get around. Some beautiful gardens. Less of a beach scene but certainly waterfront with views.

I’d never thought of Madeira but I’m having a look now and it looks stunning! Thank you for the recommendation

@Randomname83738 have a look at Petra on the Greek island of Lesvos. Only Jet2 fly from the UK. The majority of visitors are returning many for 20 plus years. It's very traditional Greek with family run taverns and a reasonable beach. I'm a couple of years older than your mum and we are returning for our 6th year.

What about south of France, St Raphael is lovely, or Nice

I would investigate either Muo or Dobrota in Montenegro, which are both within a short walk to the charming town of Kotor. It’s a stunning area. If you get a flight to Tivat (EasyJet go there) then those resorts are a short taxi ride away. I don’t suggest you go in July or August as it’s very busy.

Look at Puerto Sóller, Puerto Pollença, Portocolom, or Sant Elm, all in Mallorca. The last two, in particular, are entirely free of nightclubs and football shirts.

Whatever you choose, Street View (preferably on a computer) is great for seeing what a place is like. Here's Portocolom harbour: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.4248831,3.2676483,3a,75y,293.37h,82.57t/data=!3m10!1e1!3m8!1s0VT_NTurNBVC0aCIMH6Mpg!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D7.430760374404329%26panoid%3D0VT_NTurNBVC0aCIMH6Mpg%26yaw%3D293.3738272985878!7i16384!8i8192!9m2!1b1!2i43!5m2!1e1!1e4?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDUwNS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

I love the area of Begur, Costa Brava. Gorgeous town, good food with little cove beaches nearby. Some lovely day excursions to old towns, Roman ruins etc too. You can get a villa near Begur with amazing views. Fly into Girona and it’s 30
mins. Lovely city in its own right.
