We got 2 free return flights with aer lingus to anywhere in Europe. Going to go for a long weekend. Been to lots of places already, Paris, London, Rome, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Geneva, Madrid etc

Any suggestions? We were thinking Eastern Europe but Aer lingus dont fly there. Looking fot September/October

Lisbon, Gothenburg, Budapest, Turin

deeahgwitch · 06/05/2025 08:36

Berlin, Vienna or Stockholm as I have never been.

CountryQueen · 06/05/2025 09:35

Do aer lingus not fly to Greece as I’ve not seen one suggestion yet.

I’d ignore suggestions of places you can usually fly cheaply to.

Iceland

Either Malaga (fabulous city) with a day trip to Granada and the Alhambra
or
Marseilles with a day trip to Aix en Provence.
or
Pisa and take train to Lucca (divine) and Florence
Or
Verona - day trip to Venice
Or
Venice - day trip to Verona

Short flights, easy access from the airports and easy to get around.

Krakow

If you like sunshine on your breaks, Marseilles would be lovely. It's apparently what Bordeaux was 15 years ago, with lots of Parisians moving there and making more neighbourhoods very chichi. You can get to Cassis easily, hike through the Calanques, take a boat trip, swim..Aix-en-Provence is lovely city inland, easily accessible.

Or - Bordeaux, with a trip to Arcachon if you want a dose of seaside as well as city.

Sticking with France - Nice, lovely city (Matisse museum and Chagall museum, if that's your thing) and a bus ride to Villefranche-sur-Mer with a lovely beach, Cap-Ferrat. Trains to Antibes/Saint-Tropez.

I would fly to Marseille have lunch and explore then jump on the train to Cassis. It only takes 20 minutes. Cassis is a pretty beach town. And you’re in the Calanques National Park, beautiful walk and bays, hiking and paddle boarding.

We were actually looking here ladt night, have you been?

Yes! We loved it. Loads to see (Pompei, Herculaneum, museums, galleries), amazing food, and easy to hop on a ferry to Capri or one of the other islands.

Munich will have a festive atmosphere with Oktoberfest. Otherwise, why not go to Prague again? It must have a fabulous autumn season.

Bitolderandwiser · 06/05/2025 17:54

definitely Italy

Munich will be heaving and I personally wouldn't call the Octoberfest a festive atmosphere but I think it depends if you like these things.

But - it will be a very expensive time to go and reasonable priced accomodation will be difficult to find now.

Aslockton · 06/05/2025 20:41

Seville or Dubrovnik.

Longhotsummers · 06/05/2025 21:07

Just back from Krakow - amazing city and so easy to visit. Would highly recommend. Also

Berlinlover · 02/06/2025 11:46

Aer Lingus don’t fly to the majority of destinations mentioned on this thread.

piscofrisco · 02/06/2025 22:59

I would fly to Nice, then hire a car and go and visit the town of Menton on the Italian/French border, and a few surrounding places. I saw it a few years ago on TV I think and I’ve really fancied going ever since.
