  • what’s the best underwear for quick drying/wicking/dealing with groin and boob sweat (menopausal)
  • anyone done hand luggage only and want to share their packing list? 🙏🏻
  • am pear shape, top 12-14, bottom 16. Any tips on easy light cool and quick drying clothes??
thank you lovely people in my phone!! :)

I thought you had to keep all medication in its original packaging when entering foreign countries.

Yes, this is sensible. It shows what the drug is and that it is prescribed to you. I have read that you should take the original prescription too. I keep mine in my passport.

Have a wonderful time @AnonApril24

I have family in SE Asia and have visited there a lot over the decades tho never managed solely with hand luggage- but that’s just me!!
A couple of people have said buy repellent and sunscreen in UK. I agree with sunscreen - but you can buy better repellent in SE Asia I think. It’s often stronger,
In terms of clothing, sarongs are essential for beach, temples and cover ups. If you don’t have any or many you can easily buy out there from markets.
Everyone is saying cotton - but even thicker brushed cotton T shirt can be too hot. You need really ultra thin cotton - you can buy there too from markets if you don’t have many.
It may sound weird but I find denim shorts that aren’t tight at the top of the leg a real staple as they absorb sweat. I take two and alternate these with an ultra thin beach type cover up top/ or ultra light weight Tshirts.
Loose fitting thin cotton dress (s) - the sort you may have bought to pull over a swimsuit on holiday in Greece are good and come into their own in the humidity.
I don’t take any warm items apart from a pashmina/ thin cashmere type wrap. Use this on the plane and if I go shopping in air conditioned malls.
i always end up living in my Havianas and taking a few pairs to mix and match with different outfits. Tho if you’re walking more others have recommended the good trekking sandals - but I would break these in and wear to airport too and not take trainers or shoes to save space .

Even tho I always take something linen and chino type capri type trousers I rarely wear them unless in air con restaurant as they feel heavy and clamp on.
If your hair is long multiple hair ties will be your friend - and well fitting good quality sunglasses that latch on and don’t slip down your nose the minute you’re hot!
It’s not so much a capsule wardrobe suggestion but more suggestions to help with the humidity!! Have a wonderful time x

Definitely second the suggestion of Uniqlo. Their airism range is hard wearing, good for humid weather and folds up small. I swear by their thin under camisoles in hot weather.

They do a sleeveless airism midi dress that looks ideal for travelling to humid countries as it folds up small and is sweat wicking.

Yes the thicker Lands End/Fruit of the Loom type cotton T shirts could feel too thick.
Linen T s and vests are perfect, H&M and La Redoute often have cheaper ones. (although if wearing a vest pop a thin scarf in your bag so you can cover shoulders for temples/sun protection)

You don't need more than hand luggage. Cotton knickers but wear panty liners so you can whip one off when getting changed at night and wear the same pair all day

I actually did the same thing as you, go for light dresses, linens etc, light shorts etc and a couple of t-shirts, most hotels you stay at will have a laundry service, so make use of those, they are so cheap like £2 to wash 7 items. I took handwash stuff too for knickers but ended up just giving it all to the hotel.
i also wrapped my clothes in little rolls and elastic banded them, they stayed very small
and pretty crease free. Enjoy your trip!

Start in Hanoi, end in Ho Chi Minh. Stopping at halong bay, hoi an, hue, na Trang on the way. No plans yet except our flights in and out of country!

Hanoi-> Halong Bay-> Hanoi-> Hue-> Danang/ Hoian-> Nha Trang-> HCMC (You can save time by doing beach at An Bang beach in Hoian).

Not Vietnam, but I did 10 days in Florida last year with hand luggage only. Packing cubs, with rolled clothes. Can get so much in. Capsule wardrobe where every item matched with other pieces to give me a minimum of 3 outfits per item. Minimal silver toned jewellery that matched everything. Big fan of sleeveless dresses that work with a jacket/top over (for air-conditioned places) to make a top/skirt combo. I stuck to black and navy with pops of yellow or silver accessories. Swimsuits that double as a body/sleeveless top for evening.

I take a block of solid laundry soap for washing my underwear. Nuxe l’huile prodigeuse ‘Or’ is amazing; a small 50ml bottle works as highlighter for face and body and is all the makeup I need in hot countries. Travelling light doesn’t always mean not looking good!

I carry 5 pairs cotton knickers, a spare bra (obviously wearing one), swim wear, sarong, long sleeved shirt, 2 x dresses (t shirt material) t shirt x2, long sleeve top, socks, loose long trousers, toiletries in mini bottles, microfibre towel and sandals. Not flying in my case but motorcycle. I’m wearing motorcycle jeans, long sleeve top, leather jacket and motorcycle boots plus waterproof gear and fleece for when needed you quickly learn minimal packing

We bought ultra thin and quick drying stuff from Rohan for our trip. I used an SPF thin blouse a lot.

Laundry there is very cheap and very quick. Not in hotels, obviously. There are notices and flyers everywhere- we paid about £5 for three large bags of laundry. Handed in by 10am and ready by 4pm.

We went to Bai Tu Long Bay with Indochina Junk which was clean and almost deserted. Would definitely recommend.

I didn't. I decant all mine into a pill box which is labelled.

HollieHock · 08/05/2025 14:35

As my underwear wears out (knickers) I keep them aside for holidays like this so I can wear them and chuck them. As a pp said you will get everything laundered very easily (either by hand or in a machine) and you'll be able to wash and dry things in your room/balcony for stuff yourself.

Which laundry soap do you use? I've never found a good one yet

I'm in France, so use savon de Marseilles.

ALunchbox · 09/05/2025 20:54

Stay in a few places that have a washing machine/.have a launderette nearby and you're sorted
