Cruise to Norway o. August - boring for kids, or no?

I've found a great deal for August and we might go for it - but my boys are sun lovers
We decided to look for a cruise to try it out as it ticks the boxes for all of us - we may hate it but for now this is what we think we want. I know I can google temperatures but there's no substitute for the lived experience of mumsnetters.
Would anyone recommend a Norway cruise. Not a fjords one - which I really fancy , just straight up Norway.
Thoughts please ! 🙏

I didn't need to, but your original reply made me remember there had been a time when eating dinner in the hotel every night was right for my family.

You responded not quite as nicely as you might have done.

MSC docked in Southampton this morning after a 2 night booze cruise to Bruges. A passenger was arrested for the murder of a fellow passenger a couple of hours after leaving Southampton on Saturday. I imagine there will be far less hen & stag parties going to Norway in Aug though

Norway doesn't usually attract the same type of guests as the 2 - 3 night trips do. Given that every major news outlet is running the story and the OP probably doesn't realise that different types of trip attract very different types of guest, I was simply pointing out that MSC sailing to Norway is more likely to need the morgue for an elderly guest than an alleged murder victim.

Well she didn't realise that a cruise to Norway would be a very different experience to AI in the Med!

Lovelysummerdays · 05/05/2025 19:28

My kids did it and had a nice time they met huskies and reindeer, saw the northern lights. There weren’t that many other kids on the boat lots of older Americans who said nice things and were friendly. They went with Fred Olson the food was really good.

We did the fjords on a big ship which had lots to do. The fjords were amazing and our young adult children loved it (but said they wouldn’t go on a cruise again but loved Norway)

Dearover · 06/05/2025 07:28

I love the Fjords. I was on Iona exactly 12 months ago and the scenery made up for the ship. Not my cup of tea as there were far too many children despite deliberately booking outside of school hols & too much time looking at an app to find somewhere to eat. Britannia was absolutely lovely pre covid post exams and much calmer.

RCI had late teens/young adult meet ups which are great if they want to make friends and not just stick with their Mum. Their wave surfer, ice cream machines and crazy golf were younger teen heaven. Haven't been to Scandinavia with RCI though. Otherwise I go on Cunard which doesn't meet your criteria.
