Where to get antimalarials for kids?

Just realised that this isn't as simple as I thought it would be! I've got Malarone for myself just fine via Boots/Asda etc. before - but none of the online places will prescribe for children.

Anyone know what the process is? I can't work it out!

It's not simple.

Adults can Suffer badly from side effects. Children. More so. Obvs it dopends on. The age of children. 15 year old easier than 5 year old.

Where are you travelling to?

Check the fit for travel website or NHS or your hp. You may need to go privately.

Travel clinic, like you would for (some) vaccinations?

Sidge · 30/04/2025 19:19

Private travel clinic. They’re a private item so your GP won’t be able to prescribe (except on a private prescription which is a more expensive way of doing it).

Where are you going?

Travel clinic eg Nomad (also do yellow fever vaccines) or my gp issue private prescriptions for a set fee

We don’t need Yellow Fever or any additional vax (have had the hepatities and typhoid). It’s just malaria.

kids are 13 and 16 - both easily adult weights. GP won’t do it, I’m sure. I’ll have a look for a private travel clinic!

Many pharmacies will sell it if you know the kids weights.
