Watch out, no more Trunkies with Wizz Air as small hand lugagge

Wizz Air now targets families of 5 year old children with their Trunki to pay for large cabin bag, I find this most disgusting and disappointing, we travelled with a Trunki hundreds of times with them for 15 years, it was never picked on, but today gate staff at Gatwick picked on it, they absolutely genuinely and intentionally went after Trunkies, I heard the agents talking to each other "look, Trunki".. It is true a Trunki is 5cms longer with the sticking out horns than Wizz's 40cm allowance but I never expected for an airline to be this picky with 5 year olds.. Ryanair and easyJet has special mentions in their baggage policies not to screw over families with little children over a few cms oversize of an extremely popular children's luggage, well Wizz Air doesn't share the same view, they don't mind screwing over families with little children for some extra revenue.. I was travelling with a half empty backpack and managed to move the contents over in a minute and my daughter was luckily happy to acknowledge that she can choose a shiny brand new Trunki at a cost of 40€ instead of the 65€ claimed by Wizz, to be used for our next flight with easyJet or Ryanair, defo aiming to avoid such scam company at any cost, they really don't mind picking on 5 yr old children either for a few bucks.. Just in case Wizz Air wishes to review their agents training and behaviour it's W4 2804 on 24-Apr-2025 from London Gatwick..

Rules are rules. And the gate staff get paid per bag they charge for, isn’t it a tenner a bag they get?

Sweaterbag · 30/04/2025 15:52

You've had 5yos for 15 years?

For 15 years you've been getting away with thinking the rules don't apply to you. Well done.

Fluffyholeysocks · 30/04/2025 16:14

I can't get worked up over this - there's plenty of cabin bags that do fit the rules. Children don't need a Trunki.

IridaceaeFloribunda · 30/04/2025 16:19

Trunki’s are a PITA around airports anyway.

Bjorkdidit · 30/04/2025 18:43

Small hand luggage is supposed to fit under the seat , a Trunki never will and takes up room in the locker, inconveniencing people who have paid extra for that space.

You've been lucky to get away with breaking the rules for so long.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 30/04/2025 19:37

They're not picking on children, but on arrogant parents who think the rules don't apply to them.

bruffin · 30/04/2025 19:42

It says on the Trunki website that you will have to pay extra on WIzz air

GingerBeverage · 30/04/2025 19:49

Sorry OP, you’re not actually allowed to complain about anything airlines do. This is MN, where if you don’t pay the perfectly reasonable Shin Kick Prevention Surcharge (£47.99) then you simply must expect the air stewards to obey rules and kick you in the shins at 10min intervals.

CountryQueen · 30/04/2025 19:49

You’re buying a 5 year old a new trunkii? 🤣 why?!

bugalugs45 · 30/04/2025 19:53

So you knew it was too big , but figured you’d take your chances ? You won some in the last fifteen years , you lose some ( today )

BigGra · 30/04/2025 19:56

I’m with wizz air on this. Trunki are a pain in the hole in the overhead cabins, the ears and wheels take up too much space and can’t be shuffled tighter. We stopped using trunki after 1 flight, it did my head in.

blueleavesgreensky · 30/04/2025 19:57

The entitlement is strong with this one

Aizen · 30/04/2025 20:01

Wind your trunk in OP

Clearinguptheclutter · 30/04/2025 20:07

It’s not a deliberate policy to piss you off. If taking a trunki is that important just fly a different airline

bruffin · 30/04/2025 20:31

It clearly states on the Whizz air website the size of luggage allowed for children, and it clearly says on the trunki website which airlines trunki are allowed in the allowance and which charge extra. It's really clear but OP couldnt be bothered to find out

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 30/04/2025 20:35

It literally says extra fees will apply on Wizz Air on the Trunki website. This is all on YOU not the airport staff 😂

goingtotown · 30/04/2025 20:39

Trunkies are a menace at busy airports.

They fit under the seat fine on every easy jet, Swiss, Ryanair and BA flight I’ve been on.

Hit or miss on logs in air depending on which plane you’ve got. But then that’s the same answer or a clutch handbag.

Longma · 30/04/2025 21:00

But they aren’t targeting children.
They are targeting oversized cabin bags.
You know the Trunki is larger than the permitted size. Yes you got away with it previously. The rules have now got a bit stricter and they are checking that all luggage meets the measurements.

I’m not sure how you can complain that an airline is following it’s clearly published rules.

Aren't they! Thy are utterly ridiculous

Fuckfacetime · 30/04/2025 21:30

Diddums wants a trunki! But not to pay for it

BadSkiingMum · 30/04/2025 21:42

If it doesn’t fit underneath the seat then surely it is self-evidently a larger item of cabin luggage?

I have travelled a lot and only once have I seen a Trunki being used in its intended fashion. It has always been carried through an airport by a harassed parent. They seem to be a less-than-functional and clunky bag.

Now the Trunki backpack-style car booster seat on the other hand, that is a useful item.

Soontobe60 · 30/04/2025 21:46

Get a bloody grip OP!

🤣

I too have “got away” with various luggage infringements. I’ve taken clothes out of my bag just before the gate and worn them. I’ve folded things up, casually, inside a newspaper, I’ve worn a hat, shoved my belongings in my pockets, used a “boots” carrier bag from “airside” shops, managed to slide through in hurrying crowds so nobody notices the bag I was supposed to check, held the hands on my startled looking children and spoken to them rapidly in my second language. Sometimes you win, but that doesn’t make it disgusting when you lose. What I’ve never done is taken a brightly coloured, novelty, hard case through the gate of an airline that doesn’t allow them. That’s just asking for trouble.
