How much do you think a self catering apartment for a week should cost?

Thinking something of say a 3* standard/middling quality, within walking distance of the sea and shops. But not beachfront. How much would you be prepared to pay? Think somewhere like Menorca.

I find theres nothing 'cheap' these days once I specify my criteria, which is iron, ironing board, kettle (not all Spanish and Italian places have kettles), needs to be close to transport, restaurants, not touristy

Im usually paying around 800ish for a week these days

But thats similar to the UK too, got a airbnb for Northumberland in July and thats about 700 for the week. Need cycle storage and walking distance to pubs/beach etc so the price increases.

Can get stuff a lot cheaper if you're not fussy, probably about 400ish

We booked a 3 bed villa in Menorca for the last week in April last year, it cost £400 same villa in the middle of August was £1600 for the week. Timing makes a huge difference to what I think a holiday should cost!

When is the key. We usually Aibnb but never in peak season or school holidays. On average we pay around €80-110 a night. Our cheapest have been two long stay off peak holidays in Spain and Canaries coming in at around €60 per night.

Depends mostly on the time of year, and where exactly it is. Even on a small island like Menorca, you'd probably pay less in somewhere like Punta Prima compared with Cala Galdana.

Plus whether it's direct with the owner or through an agency could also make a difference.

When is definitely key. The cheapest weeks balance out the more expensive ones, they’re not actually that profitable - just beats the place being left empty.

Can't you just bring a kettle and/or iron with you?

Yes I like carrying household appliances with me in my luggage allowance.

I particularly like running along the tarmac with an ironing board for those tarmac boarded flights.
